Brazilian DJ and producer Mind Echoes delivers a stunning two-track EP that encapsulates his hypnotic and emotive sound. Known for releases on esteemed labels like Mango Alley, Comet, and Transensations, Mind Echoes has captivated fans and industry titans alike, with support from legends such as Hernan Cattaneo and Gai Barone. The originals on Unsafe Numbers showcase his signature style, blending driving rhythms with evocative melodies that transport listeners into his sonic universe. Adding a seismic layer of energy to the release, Brazilian maestro Tonaco and Argentine trailblazer Tomas Garcia team up for a powerhouse remix of the title track. Tonaco, a purveyor of deep, melodic grooves, has left his mark on labels like Meanwhile and Genesis Music, while Tomas Garcia brings his unique progressive flair, honed through standout releases on Proportion and Juicebox Music. Together, their remix transforms Unsafe Numbers into an anthem destined to ignite dancefloors. This release marks the final chapter of 2024 for onedotsixtwo. Following an impressive first release, Luum Records welcomes Tonaco to the label for their second and much anticipated offering. Since first appearing in 2019 with an EP via Transensations, Brazilian artist Tonaco has enjoyed a steady rise within the global progressive house scene. Noted for his blend of powerful grooves, hypnotic rhythms and evocative melodies, the Tocantins resident has excelled at creating his own brand of progressive house, making him one of the most promising artists to emerge from Brazil across the last half decade. Juicebox Music, Mango Alley, Meanwhile, Vapour Recordings and WARPP have been vehicles for his creative swell in recent years, in turn earning support from progressive house tastemakers Guy J, Hernan Cattaneo and Nick Warren. With 2024 being highlighted by a thunderous remix of 'Cressida' by Chaum and Hobin Rude for Juicebox Music, a track which peaked at #2 in Beatport's Progressive House chart, Tonaco begins 2025 on an impressive note, making his Lumm Records debut with 'Extrema'. 

Beginning with ‘Extrema’, Tonaco showcases a peak time approach which sets the tone for the EP. Full of dark textures and cutting edge design qualities, the Brazilian phenom expertly blends punchy kick drums and tough shapely grooves, with deconstructed vocal samples, wavy arps and buzzing synth mutations, for an energetic path into the break. Further revealing his creative attitude across the interlude, it's a growling acid line which emerges to steal the air in tension filled pyrotechnic fashion. A brave and unconventional approach, certainly something you don't hear much in progressive house these days, but it shifts the mood momentarily in all its squelchy glory, before a well-timed drop seals a smooth yet exhilarating finale. 

The companion piece 'Gautama' sits as a worthy complement to its predecessor and opts for a sleeker more hypnotic approach. The track's first movement is built around chunky grooves, billowing stabs and a trippy vocal loop which sits gently below the surface. Its rhythmic and percussive appeal is high, in a dark room New York kind of way, add to that a topline of transcendent pads and textural drifts which highlights the break, and you've got a late night floor burner of the highest order. A fitting way to cap off the EP, and one which furthers Tonaco's path into the upper echelon of progressive house. Highly recommended.

PREMIERE: Tonaco - Extrema [Luum Records]

Clubsonica Records opens the month of March by presenting a collaborative project from JFR and Lucas Zárate. Hailing from Argentina but currently calling Spain home, Juan Franco Rivero aka JFR has carved out a unique sonic identity in the world of progressive and organic house, resulting in a string of uniquely crafted records that present a resonant worldly sound. Releases via All Day I Dream, Anjunadeep, Musique de Lune, and his own Secret Feelings imprint have been instrumental in showcasing the Barcelona's resident's borderless approach to production, in turn garnering support from Lee Burridge, Sebastien Leger and Nick Warren, amongst others. Meanwhile, also hailing from Argentina, Lucas Zárate has enjoyed similar success since first emerging in 2022. Much like JFR, Lucas would find a cohesive balance between progressive and organic house, an amalgamation of sound which would earn him the praise of Gorje Hewek, Modd and Nick Warren, while also highlighting his resume with offerings via Melody of the Soul, Peace Symphonies and Songuara. Having also recorded a four-track artist showcase for JFR's Secret Feelings, the duo now combines their extensive forces for Clubsonica and their collaborative debut ‘Siamba | Sambuka', alongside a remix from Matthew Sona.

Beginning with the colourful monochromes of ‘Siamba', the duo continues to explore the groovy organic blueprints from which they have made their names on. A DJ friendly intro sets the pace for swing heavy rhythms and panoramic melodies to layer a warm, chunky bassline. Carving out a fluid path into the break, anticipation is high as balmy atmospherics and exotic synth cascades highlight a well-crafted interlude, building melodic tension throughout, before a cosmic crescendo reveals an epic finale complete with shapeshifting synth lines and subversive chord changes. Beneath the utopian qualities of 'Siamba' lies the equally intriguing vibes of 'Sambuka'. JFR and Lucas expound their organic vision here, with alluring rhythms and hyperspace effects blanketing warm beats and precise percussive arrangements. Clever textural co-actions marry with wavy melodies, evolving with each successive pass, while a hypnotic break complete with deconstructed vocal samples and soulful musicality preludes an inventive finale.

The release concludes with Matthew Sona making his label debut with the lone interpretation of ‘Siamba'. Hailing from Hungary, Matthew Sona has found a way to create his own personal universe by exploring organic sounds and ultimately finding a place in the trend-driven state of underground dance music at a remarkably young age. With a contribution to Zenebona's Various Artists Sampler in 2023 marking his production debut, the Budapest resident would go on to forge a strong creative partnership with the label, recording four additional projects across the next calendar year, in addition to an impressive debut on Nick Warren's The Soundgarden. With Eelke Kleijn and Hernan Cattaneo also being supporters of Matthew's work, the Hungarian continues to carve out his own path into 2025, making his Clubsonica debut with an excellent interpretation of ‘Siamba'. Bringing a contemporary state of mind, Matthew reassembles the themes from the original for his own uniquely energetic approach. Stepping decisively on the gas, it's a narrative of timely effects, haunting motifs and shapeshifting melodies which coax perfectly atop precise kick drums and charged grooves, for what results in a tastefully epic rendition that's perfect for a peak hour dancefloor.

Bursting onto the Progressive House scene in mid-2020, Fausto Javier Loza has carved out quite a name for himself with his FJL production moniker. Since a debut on Balkan United, the Argentinean producer has found his music allied to such esteemed imprints as sister Madlochs Sound Avenue and 3rd Avenue, Roger Martinezs HIGHER STATES and Mangos all-conquering Mango Alley. Now the Rosario resident from the province of Sante Fe, debuts on Proportion with a 3-track EP of the highest order as FJL presents his Alter Ego / Losstower / Rare Wizards EP. With a deep, fizzing bassline narrative running throughout the triptych, Alter Ego is a chunky rhythmic powerhouse that sees a chest-thumping kick paired with a deliciously grooved bass pattern creating a sublime rolling pattern. A kaleidoscopic array of effects and risers are scattered across the 6-minute piece as a delicate arpeggiated melody gradually evolves from the low-end foundation. Pulsating white-noise washes and a hypnotic dance-floor vibe add to proceedings in an impressive opener. A Tech House vibe infuses Losstower with its plethora of stereo-panned effects and sub-bass groove. A series of cleverly treated vocal effects add to the sonic melange with their eerie overtones, while meticulously programmed hats and shakers provide dancefloor urgency. Subtle melodic flourishes add to the overall feel and the result is a production masterclass from the FJL studio. The final offering sees Rare Wizards immediately showcase its club-friendly credentials through house rhythm and hypnotic bass sequence. In keeping with its partner tracks, a flurry of deep, dark and powerful effects make their presence felt alongside evolving textures and immaculate melodic touches. Layer upon layer of evermore intricate sounds come to the fore, felt especially keenly at the powerfully pulsing breakdown, before returning to the dramatic rhythmic urgency and plethora of effects that create a track bringing to mind such maestros such as John Digweed, Quivver and Jamie Stevens.
