I recorded a few songs at the end of 2020/start of 2021 which all ended up being abandoned or reworked into parts of Caribou Killer a couple months later. This is the only one that I still have, it's about that guy who shot Ronald Reagan in order to impress Jodie Foster- which I thought was a deeply depraved but also sort of hilarious reason to try to kill the president. I guess he's out of prison now and does music or something but he keeps getting his shows canceled because he tries to charge a fuckton to these rando DIY venues run by college kids and shit, so yeah just kind of a weird situation all around.

Yet another Carry Out Your Shovel outtake (I had a bit of trouble getting that one written and finished). I couldn't really figure out how to fit it smoothly into the tracklist so it got left behind.

I wrote this sometime in the fall of 2022 because I'd just gotten a Shure SM58 condenser mic and wanted to test it out. I know that the SM58 is a highly revered studio microphone but for the life of me I could not figure out how to record my amp without the track coming out super tinny as if I'd turned the bass knob all the way to the left. I think I must just be dumb or doing it wrong or something because I still have this problem almost 2 years later and mostly use the SM58 for acoustic instruments that have an overbearing low end when I try to record them with the same old mic I've been using for the past 8 years. Anyway, yeah I recorded this to try and plot out parts of what would've eventually become a full song but got wrapped up in newer stuff and never went back to it.

Habitable Zone (demo) (2022)

A weird sort of bridge in between sounding like Caribou Killer and I Thought I Left You in Eden, I think this is the first song I recorded after I got a drum set. I ended up rewriting the verses to this and re-recording it for the latter album after I decided to stop running instruments into my audio interface and just micing the amps instead.

Javelin (demo) (2021)

This was the first song I did after I finished my first album, I'm pretty sure I wrote and recorded it in one sitting which kinda shows but I vaguely remember really enjoying myself while goofing around with it. Hearing it now for the first time in probably years, the bassline on the verses is weirdly involved and I have absolutely no recollection of playing or recording that part whatsoever- not too surprising since this a 4 year old song that I probably worked on for like an hour in total but that bassline is so unfamiliar to me that it's slightly unnerving

I think this is the only song I recorded this year, been pretty busy or something like that. I doubt I'll end up putting it on anything so I'll just toss it in here.

Wild Cats (2024)

Another Carry Out Your Shovel outtake, listening to this again now I kinda wish I'd fixed this up and finished it in hindsight but this is another one I got really annoyed with while mixing and kept having to redo tracks. At times it's rewarding to be committed to the whole "lofi, no post production" bit but at other times I wonder if I would've been better off learning how to use a plugin or something. Prob too late now though

Was originally going to be the opener to Carry Out Your Shovel but I blew it off at one point or another, I think because I got really annoyed trying to mix the ending if I remember correctly.
