“Who comin’ with that big sound baby?” We kick off ‘Daycrawler’ with ‘Chasing Ghosts’, which has an extended introduction that sets the emotional tone for the rest of the EP to follow. We feel the familiarity of the nostalgic longing, as we chase something that is long gone and question whether or not it ever actually was. A false build-up tricks us, and it releases into a breakdown consisting of a melody played by some distorted mystery string instrument, really allowing us to soak up the emotion and sit in that space.. if only for a moment. Quickly it builds back up and what comes next is beyond comprehension or expectation. As a way to cut away that emotional tie to the past through sheer energy and intensity, what follows is the heaviest drop you can imagine while still remaining tasteful and cohesive with the rest of the song.
