About this edit :
"Lu focu di la pagghia" is a song of disdain for a love that quickly faded, originally released in 1972 by Rosa Balistreri, a Sicilian folk singer deserving of rediscovery and renewed appreciation. Starting from Rosa's deep and dramatic vocals, I crafted this beat, enriched by the crucial contributions of guitarist Luca Accarpio and accordionist Jypsyjobs. Together, we sought to breathe new life into this timeless piece, paying homage to the emotive essence of Rosa Balistreri's musical legacy.

About Badenya Les Frères Coulibaly

Formed in Nuna, located in northwestern Burkina Faso, Badenya les Freres Coulibaly are part of a family of griots (musician storytellers, also known as jali and jeli in West Africa) and are members of the Bwa ethnic group.
Originally composed by the twins Lassina and Ousseni and known as les Freres Coulibaly, the group grew up to 8 members of the Coulibaly family and are called Badenya les Freres Coulibaly.
Lassina and Ousseni traveled for the first time to Europe in 1989. Invited by the “Atelier of Ethnomusicology” in Geneva to teach African percussion and dance. From there, they traveled to Switzerland, Germany, Netherlands and the UK. The public was instantly conquered by their natural ease, their radiation, which emanated from these young musicians freshly arrived from Burkina Faso. Their togetherness seemed perfect an inalterable, no disagreement seemed possible between them.
Invited to the Montreux Jazz Festival they performed under the artistic direction of Quincy Jones for an evening with Miles Davis. In reaction to this success, Claude Nobs and Quincy Jones invited the trio for 2 additional nights and they got to play with Georges Clinton, Georges Benson, Al Jarreau, Toots Thielmans, the rappers Kool Moe Dee, Mel Mellow and many others.
In 1993, Solo, Lassina and Ousseni released their first album Anka-Dia. They flew to Tunisia to teach percussion and the next year, flew to Spain, (Madrid and Barcelona) to be part of an African festival with Salif Keita, Cesaria Evora, Khaled and Johnny Clegg. Then les Freres Coulibaly were invited by Baaba Maal in Senegal for his tenth anniversary in the music world. There they met Peter Gabriel and shared several exceptional performances with Youssou N’Dour.
2000-2001: Release of the second album “Seniwe (Solidarity) with the entire family. The promotional tour for the album took the group to America, Israel, Malaysia, Germany and Austria. The following year they flew everywhere in Europe and in June, Carlos Santana invited the band to perform with him at the Letzigrund stadium in Zurich.
This track was selected by Putumayo World Music, a record label known for its compilation albums featuring various artists from different cultural backgrounds. "African Groove" is one of the albums in their collection, typically featuring a selection of tracks from African musicians or groups. These albums are often curated to showcase the diversity and richness of African music, ranging from traditional to contemporary genres such as Afrobeat, Highlife, Soukous, and more. "African Groove" would likely offer listeners a vibrant and rhythmic journey through the musical traditions of Africa. It's a great way for people to explore and appreciate the vast array of sounds.

Always loved the original version of Boroto since long time ago, and was playing this in a dj set and while transitioning to other tune realized that could be a good idea for an edit for more danceable purposes. Hope you enjoy this and appreciate a respectful representation of African music in an electronic context. Growing up, I was steeped in the rich sounds of African music—my parents' journeys through the continent and my dad's deep study of its rhythms shaped my world from before I was even born. One song, in particular, has stayed with me for years. Recently, I rediscovered it, and something clicked. The simplicity of its vocals and guitar felt like an open canvas, perfect for a fresh interpretation.
With this edit, I wanted to infuse a dreamy, ethereal, and sensual vibe, letting the essence of the original flow into something new and captivating.

Earthly Measures are proud to present the release of ‘El Búho - Cumbias Imaquinarias’, this time on wax with some added remixes.

'Cumbias Imaquinarias' is an EP that flows full circle with one of El Búho’s earliest inspirations for making electronic music; digital Cumbia. It was a scene that exploded out of Buenos Aires around 2008 and went global. The scene soon saturated and fell out of fashion, but gave birth to artists like Chancha Via Circuito, Frikstailers, El Remolon and was a big inspiration for him as a young producer.

For El Búho there was always something there; the entrancing magic of the Cumbia rhythm reimagined for the electronic dancefloor. Cumbia is a music that is globally connected but also so diverse, evolving and growing into many subshoots of this one simple rhythm. This EP presents three Cumbia’s and one Porro rhythm (a derivation of the Cumbia rhythm from the Colombian Caribbean which evolved into its own style).

Joining El Búho on remix duties for this release are ARN4L2, Lagartijeando, Auntie Flo, La Jungla, Earthly Measures x Dreems, La Forasteria and Sun Sone. Each artist offering a completely unique approach and their own magic touch to this El Búho masterpiece.

It's Good To Be A Tree is an organic house record label that releases trippy tracks with downtempo grooves, and this is the imprints fourth instalment of their annual various artist compilation.

'G2B3:COMP-04' features fifteen tracks by record label regulars such as Betelgeize, Daniel Hokum, Fawno, Valique, Last Gentleman On Playa, and Yassen. There are also a number of record label debuts from the likes of Dr Parnassus, Juanma Salinas, Aleceo, Kermesse, Yemanjo, Still Asian, Vavinchi and Andre P, it also includes first ever official releases by Kira Kinko, and Pasha Kruchini.
