Is my newest mixes and it starts, like most of my mixes, with a spoken intro. The main topic in this mix is about how everything is easier and better if you’re with somebody else. To be more than one person helps you in so many cases. To solve problems, to endure sufferings or only to be not alone. Being together, I think, is one of the most valuable things in life, but like most things you only recognize it when “it’s gone” and you’re not together with someone on your side. So, appreciate the friendships and the beloved people you have – do not take it for granted.

How shall I hold my soul and yet not touch
It with your own? How shall I ever place
It clear of you on anything beyond?
Oh gladly I would stow it next to such
Things in the darkness as are never found

Kermit And The Super Weird System is the latest offering from the ever-evolving Moss Side artist. Channelling the likes of Big Youth, Dillinger and U-Roy, Kermit Leveridge’s new project sees him assume the role of a JA deejay, toasting over the booty-shaking, dubwise good times spun by Super Weird selector, Josh Ray.

 From an original British b-boy to a Ruthless Rap Assassin, Kermit has constantly shape-shifted his way to the front of the vanguard of music. Having been the first dancer photographed spinning on his head in the UK during his Broken Glass days, his rhymes were later hailed by Roots Manuva as the ‘the roots of grime’ and as a founding half of Black Grape, alongside Shaun Ryder, Kermit climbed to the top of the UK charts, securing his name in the annals of music history.

After touring the world to critical acclaim and crossing the near-fatal abyss of heroin addiction, Kermit returned as a poet with lyrical wit that’s as distinct and impressive as ever. Reigniting a long-standing creative partnership with DJ Greg Wilson in 2014, his return to music inspired the formation of the multi-media Super Weird Substance label, and an extended family of singers, musicians and DJs has grown out of it since.

With an output including 2 life-affirming mixtapes and 9 balearicpsychedelicdubdisco vinyl EPs, the label has established a name for itself in the counterculture, furthered by a string of live events including 7 memorable sixties-styled Super Weird Happenings. Providing a pop-up party wherever they go, Super Weird Substance has established a reputation for versatility; as comfortable hosting intimate fire-side sessions as they are rocking a full house on main stages.

This latest manifestation sees Kermit join forces with Josh Ray, who’s established a solid reputation for reggae locally in Liverpool, at festivals like Positive Vibration and Africa Oyé, whilst DJing further afield in places like Amsterdam and Addis Ababa. Debuted to an incredibly warm and increasingly wild response at Sheffield’s Catch 23, Kermit And The Super Weird System are primed to rock festival audiences across the UK with their new slant on a sound system.

The Fingerman Show: Farewell To Sussex Mixshow

This week we are very excited to introduce you to a new duo hailing from Santa Barbara that popped up on our radar at the end of last year. One half, Jack Roy has already shared some amazing music with us and we were honored to drop his debut single with us 'Juices' a few weeks back.

Joining forces with his counterpart Peitzke, the duo have laid down some super smooth grooves for this week's mix, and we are also excited to announce they'll be release some of their new music with us very soon!

LAMP Weekly Mix #267 feat. Jack Roy x Peitzke

A multi-media label founded by DJ Greg Wilson, Super Weird Substance deals primarily with balearicpsychedelicdubdisco recordings whilst, on the live side, hosting sixties-styled ‘Happenings’ that include talks, art, bands and DJs.

Announcing its presence at the beginning of summer in 2014 – via the good vibes life-affirming mixtape ‘Blind Arcade Meets Super Weird Substance In The Morphogenetic Field’ – the label took five Super Weird Happenings across the country, whilst releasing a series of new recordings on vinyl, the next year. Eight singles were released between June and October, followed by a CD compilation, bringing together all of the singles as well as alternate versions and a special Greg Wilson mix.

Building on the success of a memorable Festival No.6 showcase in Portmeirion in 2015, Super Weird Substance returned in April 2017 with their most ambitious event to date, the 14 Hour Super Weird Happening at The Florrie. Prior to that Super Weird Substance collaborated with the man who bestowed their name, teaming up with Alan Moore and his Mandrillifesto project, Super Weird Substance created their second mixtape, ‘Alan Moore’s Mandrill Meets Super Weird Substance At The Arts Lab Apocalypse’, taking his acute social commentary and reinventing it within their own joyous sonic realm.

In 2018, the label returned to music with digital single, Gone With The Vibe and the first Substance Select EP. 2019 saw a new, younger energy introduced to the label, bringing with it new sounds, set to be unleashed in 2020, alongside Substance Select Vol.2, releasing Bella Technika remixes on vinyl.
