Hot on the heels of her collaborative EP with Matt Tolfrey, ʻThe Same Pageʼ EP, Kate Simko makes her full solo debut on Londonʼs Leftroom imprint alongside the vocal talents of Jem Cooke and the remix might of John Tejada.

Chicagoʼs Kate Simko has hit her stride as a producer and DJ since her auspicious beginnings as part of Matthew Dearʼs Spectral Sound roster. Remixing Philip Glass, composing film scores, collaborating with Tevo Howard as Polyrhythmic, and increasingly on the radar of the world's top clubs via on-point DJ and Live/AV sets, Simkoʼs talents have been closely followed by Leftroom boss, Matt Tolfrey.  Tolfrey first invited Kate on board last fall with her remix of Laura Jones' smash hit "Love In Me;" then, after hearing the raw, acid-house inspired 'Kabuki Drop', Tolfrey signed the EP on sight and it's not hard to see why.  

Simkoʼs love of Daniel Bell/DBXʼs incredibly focused and classic use of sound shines through on ʻKabuki Dropʼ, where an uncluttered rhythm track boldly drives a perfectly formed array of creeping bleeps, atmospherics and lush pads.
Kateʼs old friend, John Tejada - an artist who has developed an enviable reputation for squeezing soul out of machines - treats ʻKabuki Dropʼ to an oozing makeover. An inspired choice for the task in hand, the lauded producer delivers the sort of immersive eloquence that few achieve.
The second half of this diverse EP is balanced by ʻGo On Thenʼ, a full vocal cut and dub version featuring the sultry, jazz-inflected talents of London-based Jem Cooke paired with delicate Rhodes, lazy fills and hazy keys that underpin a powerful dubbed bassline.

With plans to relocate to London in July, Kate's 'Kabuki Drop' EP is a heartfelt offering to Leftroom from this soon-to-be Chicago transplant.

What happens when you combine the Iberican sound from the prestigious duo Chus and Ceballos and you feature the NYC flavor and voice from the legend, Cevin Fisher? You get "Lost in Music"....

This track sends a clear message: music is life.  As we embark on this hypnotical iberican tech house groove, those driving clavs bring us deeper into the zone. Once on this journey, we slowly start to hear filtered vocals creeping in where we finally confirm that we are "lost in music". This is delivered to us courtesy of a choice sampling from classic Sister Sledge which demonstrates that music is timeless. Then comes syncopated synth stabs that give just the right accent. 
Entering the breakdown, the synths start to extend and sustain and carriy us back to the sexy hypnotic groove that Chus and Ceballos have truly mastered.
It is the perfect definition of true, house music!

This track is a definite testimonial to Chus and Ceballos' endless passion and commitment to music, the dancefloor and house music lovers all over.
It is another great original by C & C and judging by the success of their last colossal track Go On!, prepare to be blown away!
The boys have been working hard and playing all over the world but hold a special place in their hearts for the Miami, NYC and Montreal circuit.
Their residencies at the three most important clubs within that circuit has cultivated a huge community of fans and this track serves as their tribute to them.

Last year I attended the Zoo Project Festival and one of the sets I heard had me thinking to myself 'Is this new or old?' to a load of dubby, bouncy tracks the DJ was playing. I was with a friend who was a fan of the old 'Sunday Scene' or simply the 'House and Garage Scene' of the mid 90s and he was none the wiser, so we ascertained it had to be new stuff. Since then I've been finding more and more music that reflects that sound. All new beats and fresh producers (well apart from MK) but still with that swing and bounce you'd appreciate if you were a fan from back then.....and if you're a fan of this current sound of course. I've even gone and pinched a name from back then as a homage to the sound. Those that know, know!!

This new track from Akabu features the soaring neo soul croons of Alex Mills (who you might recognize from Miguel Campbell's ‘Something Special’).

The Joey Negro Strip Mix is unashamedly feel-good with its bouncing, skewed and spraying synths and driving bassline, with pristine production putting many imitators to shame.

The Akabu Warehouse Mix is built on chunky drums and classic claps before rave indebted synths swoop into the mix. Building the tension slowly, the whole thing comes alive with a bobbling bassline and the carefully chopped and spliced diva vocals of Miss Mills.

RIPPERTON – “A LITTLE PART OF SHADE”

Swiss producer Ripperton returns to present his new studio album “A Little Part Of Shade” due for release June 2013.

The musician’s second full-length album will further deepen his impressive catalogue of work and follow the 2010 critically acclaimed “Niwa” seeing his return to Joris Voorn and Edwin Oosterwal’s Amsterdam based Green label.

Ripperton gained popularity as a producer with his Lazy Fat People project releasing on high profile labels such as Border Community, Planet E, or Wagon Repair; he rapidly grew as a solo artist with an almost endless run of key releases on Green, Liebe Detail, Connaisseur, Music Man, Systematic, Dessous and remixes for Radiohead (“Nude”), Laurent Garnier (“Controlling The House”), Ellen Allien (“My Tree”), Beanfield (“Tides”), Max Cooper (‘Egomodal’) labeled him as a refined studio producer, adding a newfound sense of introspection to electronic house music.

Since the release of Niwa in 2010, Ripperton has been busy working on this album – combining traditional song craft with a more familiar rhythmical style.

“A Little Part Of Shade is about the part of shade that everyone has. It's about the private garden; it’s quite the opposite of Niwa. It's an inside garden. It can be bright or dark or in the middle. It can destroy or help you…”

If you weren't convinced of Raphaël Ripperton compositional talent by his debut album, his sophomore release will do the trick. The LP see’s him work alongside a variety of artists including Hemlock Smith, the multi talented writer, graphist and photographer Van Hai, and Germain Umdenstock, whom features on the opening lead track “A Little Part Of Shade”; providing guitar melodies over his carefully constructed landscapes.

Drawing on the collaborative talents from his own highly respected independent Perspectiv label Ripperton’s track “Black Wall” features the vocals of Masaya and succeeds in demanding an almost attentive listen.

The thirteen musically broad and emotionally deep tracks that are included in “A Little Part Of Shade reflect Rippertons approach to electronic music production, song writing attitude, and the sense of emotional delivery that extends far beyond the purview of techno clubs.

Fresh from the release of the deep acid-tinged ‘Clear Vision’ on Noir Music’s latest ‘Second Chances & New Romances 6.0’ compilation, revered Italian duo Supernova are making a long-overdue return to their own Lapsus Music imprint with a new two track EP. Having built the label’s roster into one of house music’s strongest units, the label heads are returning to the frontline with the ‘Acidays’ EP. 

First up, the title track ‘Acidays’ kicks things off with a jackin’ rhythm and low-slung bassline groove, letting the lead acid synth line dictate the track’s progression as it snakes through the sparse 909 drum snap. This motif is continued as ‘A-cieed’ travels further down the rabbit hole. Keeping things moving with scattershot snares and crisp open hi-hats, the track builds in urgency around the evolving acid riff at its core.

On Traxsource, the EP will lead with another original production, ‘Something’. Here Supernova rework the acid flavour that runs through the other tracks, offering the same low end bump but with a timeless melodic stroke.
