Cet été, Radio Sofa installe sa Méridienne dans le nouveau booth du Top à @point-eph-m-re, le temps d’une résidence radiophonique estivale. Dans ce studio transitoire, orienté vers des univers phoniques non-dansants, nous recevrons sur six dates invité.e.s et résident.e.s pour des sessions exploratoires à écouter assis.

La Méridienne entend mêler, quelques après-midi durant, lumière zénithale et poésie sonore. Les sélections de nos convives, ouvertes au public, seront retransmises en direct sur nos ondes depuis les toits puis disponibles à la réécoute. Amateurs et amatrices d’ambiances lancinantes et de rythmes voluptueux, la Méridienne s’ouvre au grand jour le 3 juillet.

Radio Sofa sets its Méridienne on the roof of the Point Ephémère for a summer radio residency. In this transitory studio, oriented towards non-dancing phonic universes, we will receive guests and residents for exploratory sessions to be listened to sitting down.

La Méridienne intends to mix zenithal light and sonic poetry for a few afternoons. The selections of our guests will be open to public and broadcast live on our airwaves from the rooftop. Lovers of haunting atmospheres and voluptuous rhythms, La Méridienne opens on the 3d of July.

On this month’s show, we’re very excited to welcome a Cold Blow records special. The show will be in 3 segments. First, it's a Cold Blow showcase, then, Finnish producer Halvtrak will take us on a
disorienting journey through his obscure collection of cold wave,
industrial and EBM. Finally, DJ Visto "Funk" Hiltunen will play us a
mix of his classic edits, before vanishing back into the cool summer
nights of Lapland.
Cold Blow is a London and Helsinki-based label known for their early
UK house and techno reissues, as well as new music in the same vein.
Founded by two friends from the Finnish Lapland, Pete and Janne “J”,
the label roster includes the likes of Dr. Rhythm, Liquid Son, DMX
Krew, Mono Junk, E.M.U., Halvtrak and many more.

ORGANIC ANALOGUE RECORDS TRANSMISSION #25 - Cold Blow Records Showcase [30.08.2022]

VH: Hi Franz aka @franjazzco, welcome aboard. What have you been up to lately? 

F: Hey! Thanks for having me, it's an honor. Hm, pretty much the usual - working during the week, having a ball on the weekends, spending more money on records than I probably should, take care of my cats..

VH: How are you connected to the Viennese music scene?

F: I'd say pretty good, this town and its people have treated me well! I moved here from the countryside in 2003 and since then I've had the opportunity to participate in a few projects and collectives. The most recent is a DJ and event crew called Service, which I run with four friends. In general, I think this town holds incredible creative potential. There are so many people out there who I like to call friends and companions and who are just great at what they do - be it DJing, composing and producing music, organizing events, running venues, labels, or record stores - just everything that makes up a vibrant music scene!

VH: On the streets of Vienna, they say you're a great digger. What does that mean for you?

F: If so, I’ll take it as a compliment, and a very charming one at that! In fact, I've probably been obsessed with discovering new music all my life. I think this has its roots in my childhood, when I had a hard time falling asleep at my designated bedtime (I've always been a night person, it’s probably genetic), and the only thing I could do at night to avoid getting caught was to listen to the radio I had in my room on headphones, with the lights off. I think I felt the presenters were my friends, accompanying me through the dark and lonely nights, introducing me to all kinds of new music - basically more or less what I do myself today as a DJ, or at least try to.

VH: Tell us about your crew in Vienna "Service". As a presenter yourself, what do you look for in a show?

F: By now the crew consists of fellow DJs and friends Bambi, Gianni, @steinwald13, @mellolololo and me - a great combination, as everyone has their own skills and talents to contribute, and they're just some of the sweetest people around. We've started six years ago with an open-air party at a beautiful venue just outside the city, right next to the Danube, and we’ve been doing it every year since. We also host regular nights at Celeste, a nice little club with a very intimate atmosphere and strong sense for community that has massively supported us and our work throughout the years, as well as floor hostings at various locations across town and a monthly show on @resradio. Hm, what do I look for in a show? Bottom line, a good and easy time, an environment where I can feel welcome and safe enough to let go and enjoy a little escapism from the burdens of everyday life.

VH: Do you have any plans, wishes, or anything else for the near future that you might want to share?

F: I have a few gigs coming up before the end of the year that I'm definitely looking forward to, and right now I have two more mixes to finish.

VH: Thanks a very much for your contribution. You said at the beginning that you have been struggling to finish another mix. Do you find that a difficult task?

F: While I really appreciate these opportunities to play music to an audience that I might not otherwise reach and use tracks that might not fit in a live setting, it's a toxic mix of overthinking and procrastination that makes it hard to actually finish. Honestly, I'd like to record mixes more regularly, as there are still too many records gathering dust in my shelf that deserve to be heard. 

VH: How would you describe the mix you created for us?

F: I decided to take a chance and dig into the downtempo and chill-out areas of my music collection. Some memories of the golden Vienna downtempo days of the late 90ies and early 2000s, but also some uplifting, melodic Balearic vibes that, no matter the genre or tempo, I can hardly keep my hands off. I hope everyone who hears it enjoys, and thanks again for the opportunity!
