Roger Hodgson’s latest release, Classics Live, is a spectacular collection of live performances from his solo, band and orchestra shows around the world recorded on his 2010 World Tour. The songs Roger Hodgson sings that are often referred to as Supertramp songs are songs that Roger wrote and composed alone - that is how he creates music. He will often hear the musical composition first and then the lyrics come. Sometimes he will hear the whole song complete inside himself before he puts it down on paper and recording. Supertramp as a band never wrote and composed together, there were only two songwriters for the band. The songs Roger sings lead vocals on are the ones he composed the music and lyrics for, and the songs Rick sings lead vocals on are the ones that he wrote.

For most of my life, I've loudly and proudly identified myself as a Supertramp fan. All these years later, I listen with awe to the altogether stunning new Classics Live album only to discover that I am, in fact, first and foremost, a major Roger Hodgson fan. His is the voice that spoke to me as a young man, and speaks to me even more powerfully all these years later. An utterly inspired collection of live performances of the best-loved songs that Roger Hodgson has written and sung to date, Classics Live reminds us in the most vivid way who brought the world such beloved rock standards as "Give A Little Bit," "Take The Long Way Home," "The Logical Song" and "Dreamer," and why these shining songs endure as deeply personal yet somehow universal expression of longing, love and our endless search for human connection. Hodgson's performances on Classics Live were recorded in various venues around the world -- from France to Brazil to Germany to Venezuela. Some of the performances here are acoustic, some with a small rock band; others find Hodgson backed by an orchestra too, and yet the entire album holds together as the deeply felt song cycle of a lifetime from an artist who for too long has been too humble to lay claim to his own remarkable musical legacy. Supertramp are a progressive rock British band established in 1969 by co-founders Roger Hodgson and Rick Davies.  Hodgson, writer and composer of the great majority of the band’s greatest hits, has the distinctive voice that people think of when they reminisce about the band.    Many people are not aware that although Hodgson and Davies shared writing credit, they actually wrote and composed separately with each singing their own songs.

The 1974 album release, Crime of the Century, contained Hodgson’s song Dreamer, which was the band’s first commercial hit.   The next album, 1977’s Even in the Quietest Moments, saw Hodgson’s Give a Little Bit win international acclaim.  In 1979, the band released their most commercially successful album, Breakfast in America, which went on to sell over 20 million copies.  Hodgson’s title track, Breakfast in America, plus The Logical Song, and Take the Long Way Home, along with Davies’ Goodbye Stranger were the standout singles from this album with the tracks still being played on the radio today. 
 
Hodgson left the band in 1983 to raise his small children and pursue his spiritual beliefs.  Davies continued recording under the name Supertramp.  However, the band did not reach the level of commercial success they had attained when Hodgson was with them. 
  
Hodgson tours extensively worldwide every year and performs solo, with band, and with orchestra.   After not touring for eight years, Davies toured as Supertramp in 2011.
