In the Summertime

Supertramp are a progressive rock British band established in 1969 by co-founders Roger Hodgson and Rick Davies.  Hodgson, writer and composer of the great majority of the band’s greatest hits, has the distinctive voice that people think of when they reminisce about the band.    Many people are not aware that although Hodgson and Davies shared writing credit, they actually wrote and composed separately with each singing their own songs.

The 1974 album release, Crime of the Century, contained Hodgson’s song Dreamer, which was the band’s first commercial hit.   The next album, 1977’s Even in the Quietest Moments, saw Hodgson’s Give a Little Bit win international acclaim.  In 1979, the band released their most commercially successful album, Breakfast in America, which went on to sell over 20 million copies.  Hodgson’s title track, Breakfast in America, plus The Logical Song, and Take the Long Way Home, along with Davies’ Goodbye Stranger were the standout singles from this album with the tracks still being played on the radio today. 
 
Hodgson left the band in 1983 to raise his small children and pursue his spiritual beliefs.  Davies continued recording under the name Supertramp.  However, the band did not reach the level of commercial success they had attained when Hodgson was with them. 
  
Hodgson tours extensively worldwide every year and performs solo, with band, and with orchestra.   After not touring for eight years, Davies toured as Supertramp in 2011.
