Presenting their first release of the year, BrokenHearted welcomes Eleven Of July back to the label for a new EP. Since emerging in 2017 Italian artist Augusto Proto aka Eleven Of July has forged a distinctive sound which focuses on inventive use of melody and rhythm, drawing the lines between global dance cultures without adhering to any fixed formula. On the strength of support from Adriatique, Dubfire, Mind Against and Undercatt, Eleven Of July has been operating at the heart of the melodic house and techno movement. The birth of BrokenHearted has given Augusto a home for his most sought-after creations, a landing spot where the Italian has already released four standout productions across a creative eight month stretch. Now, opening 2023 in style, Eleven Of July follows up last year's well-received ‘Asleep’ with a new two-track showcase entitled ‘Drived’. 

EP opener and title selection 'Drived' finds Eleven Of July composing with a strong sense of space. With each sound being an event in a slowly expanding landscape, zooming out to reveal a world of scale in which depth and contrast coax perfectly with rhythm and melody. Etching towards a darker monochrome, it’s tough kick drums and rippling bass stabs lead to electrified iterations of new age sonics, where driving percussive arrangements, balmy overlays and ethereal synth phrasing unite for a finale that is equal parts tense and emotive.

Meanwhile, the companion piece ‘Presage’ lands with an equally impressive display of craftsmanship. Building with an ultrasonic pulse, its smoky resonance eventually gives way to wavy arps and wispy effects, where textural and structural dimensions blanket rolling beats and percussive flashes, before ultimately giving way to a series of choir-like overlays, onwards to a prophetic finale. A thunderous conclusion to a fresh two-track odyssey, one where Eleven Of July carefully balances technique and musicality, thus continuing his tenure as one of Italy’s rising musical mavericks.

Presenting their second release, Musique de Lune’s Noire division welcomes Ash Mellor & Steve Fokas to the label for their debut single. Hailing from the UK, Ash Mellor is perhaps best known for being half of the Sixty Feet Deep artist moniker. Inspired by the likes of such as John Digweed, Hernan Cattaneo, Nick Warren and Sasha, Sixty Feet Deep would make their debut in 2017 with a well-received single via Tears, before going on to release a four-track artist showcase via Brian Cid’s Endangered imprint. Meanwhile, Steve Fokas has enjoyed similar success since first emerging in 2020. It was a six-track EP via Endangered which won over progressive and melodic house & techno fans alike, a release which ultimately led to an equally large follow-up via Endangered late last year. Now, combining their extensive forces for the first time, Ash and Steve make their Musique de Lune Noire debut with ‘Because Of You’, alongside remixes from Vlad Jet and Gersh.

The Original Mix finds Ash and Steve masterfully synthesizing their talents into one singular charming vision. Deep and inviting from the outside, it’s tough beats, spacious grooves and cosmic effects set the course for a variety of ghostly vocal fragments and nostalgic arps. Hopeful pads add depth and space across the second act, as the vocal narrative expands onwards to a tastefully elegant finale.

Making his label debut and providing the first remix of ‘Because of You’ is Gersh. The Israeli artist emerged in the indie-dance scene last year with a contribution to Maccabi House’s ‘All Stars 02’ collection, before going on to record projects for Nein Records and Rotten City Files. Now bringing a fresh approach to ‘Because of You’, Gersh aims squarely for the dance floor with big breakbeats and electric rhythms anchoring soaring chords and deconstructed vocals. Tension and drama are at a premiere across a well-constructed second act, as atmosphere melts away and rhythm and groove perfectly segue into a muscular build and ultrasonic conclusion. Perfect for a peak time dance floor.

The release concludes with Vlad Jet also making his label debut with the second and final remix of ‘Because of You’. The Ukrainian artist has been a fixture of the electronic underground for over a decade, releasing his brand of melodic house and indie dance via Disco Halal, JEAHMON! Records and Sincopat, in turn earning support from Adam Port, Agoria and Moscoman and more. Here he brings a unique approach to ‘Because of You’ with retro-grooves, trippy arps and a thought-provoking atmospheric backdrop. A nostalgic rendition from Vlad Jet which makes for excellent Musique de Lune Noire debuts for himself, Gersh, Ash Mellor and Steve Fokas. Don’t miss it.

microCastle’s first offering of 2023 welcomes Presia to the label for his debut EP. Burgeoning French talent Presia has carved out a unique sonic identity in the world of electronic music and indie dance, resulting in a string of uniquely crafted records that present a resonant worldly sound. Hailing from the Alpine town of Annecy, Presia’s musical palate takes reference from a legion of genres across the industry’s vast spectrum; creating an authentic voice that is discernibly his own. 2022 proved to be a breakout year for the French talent, with a contribution to Isolate’s ‘Mutations’ collection preceding a five-track showcase for the Turkish imprint in July. Support from industry tastemakers soon followed as did an EP for Avidus’ Empore Music to end the year. Now, for his first project of 2023, Presia makes his microCastle debut with a four-track showcase entitled ‘First Time’.

EP opener ‘Brizz’ immediately captivates with its rubbery rhythms, glossy melodies and prismatic haze. Colours blur together as the springy bass and gauzy synths propel forward into a tastefully twisted interlude, one where fuzz and distortion unite, as the groove erupts alongside a furious march of metallic arps. The space-dance foray ‘The Path’ follows and further cements Presia’s dancefloor minded ethos. A collection of recalibrated sonics and emotionally resonant hooks highlight a retro-tinged, acid-laced first movement, perfectly whetting the appetite for a break of flickering sonics and granular flares.

Beneath the hypnagogic waves of ‘The Path’ lies the starry guitars and neo-saccharine drive of ‘Cash’. A cohesive fusion of indie and melodic themes, anchored by rocketing beats and percussive rides, tastefully building to a wild-eyed intensity of woozy guitars and soaring synths. Its soulful pulse proves to be the perfect prelude for the collection's final and title selection, the summery set closing record 'First Time'. Building with a subdued pulse, its wonky disorienting lead quickly catches hold of you, flowing through an exchange of free-form effects, as plucky stabs and pneumatic tones transfer energy into a finale of speaker-buzzing revelry.

The latest release from Tash's Movement Limited welcomes Stones and Bones to the label for their debut EP. Hailing from South Africa, the Stones and Bones duo have been fixtures of the afro-house scene for well over a decade. The Pretoria residents have taken their worldly sound to an array of cutting edge imprints, most notably Merecumbe Recordings, Unquantize, Moblack and FOMP. Also accomplished as DJs, Stones and Bones remain one of their country's most exciting acts, oftentimes incorporating live saxophone, guitar and vocals into their sets, resulting in a uniquely fresh approach to music programming and dancefloor dynamics. Now, following their latest Merecumbe vehicle 'Afronova', Stones and Bones pair with vocalist Carlos Busto for their Movement Limited debut 'Occlumency'.

Fuelled by rhythm, groove and a hugely memorable vocal; its exotic drum arrangements, bubbly bass lines and cutting edge effects resonate on a transcendent level. Fluid and energetic across the first movement, it's this swing-heavy momentum which provides a bridge into a well crafted break. Sitting comfortably in an emotive yet thought provoking space, Carlos' vocal emerges in grandiose fashion, taking centrestage across the interlude as hopeful pads and wavy arps eventually melt down to a tasteful drop and lively percussive finale. Also included for the less vocally inclined is the Instrumental Mix, which carries the same arrangement and dancefloor sensibility, making it an additional weapon for your sets.
