PREMIERE: Nishan Lee — Modano (Hasith Remix) [One Of A Kind]

Award-winning DJ and producer and ever-present in the upper echelons of dance music fraternity for over 15 years, Pole Folder is an iconic figure of global renown. With DJ appearances across the globe, the classically trained musician has a unique ability to fill dance-floors with cross-genre appeal while a production portfolio tells a similar story of global appeal. Through his own Reworck imprint and an era-defining album on John Digweed's Bedrock that gave rise to countless appearances on TV and radio, further work saw the Belgian mixing the "Sudbeats II" compilation for Hernan Cattaneo's imprint. A regular on Proton Music since a 2006 debut, Pole Folder now returns after a successful remix of Michael A in December 2017. "A Glimpse Into The Past" is a glorious piece, redolent in exquisite melodies and intricately crafted percussive flair. Rippling motifs build in intensity in front of a soft and hypnotic arpeggio as sumptuous pads create a depth and texture. Hitting its stride, post-breakdown, the culmination of dominant beat and counterpoint melodic lead create a wonderful aural vision.

Joining a host of Australian talents, Retza is a name that oozes craft and quality. A successful DJ at events including Rainbow Serpent Festival and Let Them Eat Cake in his home country, appearances in Berlin and North America have rubber-stamped a growing reputation. His music signed to some of the industry's finest imprints including, All Day I Dream, Kindisch and UONE's Beat and Path, Retza's music has been supported by a host of leading names including Jamie Stevens, Lee Burridge and Kasey Taylor. Making his Proton Music debut, the Retza remix is a wonderfully created work that sensitively takes the leading elements of Pole Folder's work and sculpts them into new and vibrant directions courtesy of a stripped-back beat and ticking percussive groove. These then form the foundations for layers of counterpoint melodic motifs to fully express themselves in freeform glory across the near-nine-minute track. With its warm and complex bassline adding further depth, Retza's is a dazzlingly intelligent reworking.

Maddy Hughes is another Australian firmly making his presence felt upon a global stage through his Funkform moniker. Out of his home "in the lush tropical paradise of Cairns", he has been a regular on the Open Records imprint. From 2011's "Middleman" debut to 2017's "Synthesia", Funkform's original work has been key with additional releases for Vapour Recordings, Stellar Fountain and City Life all playing host to the trademark Funkform sound. Now debuting on Proton Music with a typically impressive reworking of Pole Folder, Hughes transforms "A Glimpse Into The Past" into a dynamic, groove-driven offering that excels with a searing lead line that cuts through his remix like a hot knife through butter. Building in intensity throughout with intricate percussive top line, beautiful piano phrasing ripples outwards at the mid-point as a series of effects and motifs create a wonderful question and answer tension that is a tribute to Pole Folder's original.

With a "Glimpse Into The Past" wonderfully represented by debuts from Retza and Funkform, Pole Folder's future glows incandescent.

Amol Reon, Nosh & SJ - Fairy Tales (LoQuai Remix)

It's time to introduce a brand new artist to you, as this isn't only his Magnitude Recordings debut, it's his first ever official release. Please give a warm welcome to Buenos Aires based artist Maezbi, the latest to emerge from the ever delivering Argentinian progressive house talent pool.

When Francesco Pico heard his demo he didn't have any doubt, he wanted to sign Maezbi to his label right away! And the result is the double A-sider you've got in front of you right now, including the songs Pangea and Panthalassa.

Rolling and funky but smooth and dreamy at the same time, these songs tick all the boxes and we're pretty sure these will be gathering a lot of support from the progressive house community.

What a release by this debutant, and let's all hope this is only the beginning for him!

Maezbi - Panthalassa

The "One Side of the Underground" series on Proton Music has been the perfect vehicle for Rick Pier O'Neil to showcase his incomparable production skills. Now taking "Cancun" from August 2018's best-selling "Vol. 2," remixes for Yin and Yang come courtesy of Sri Lankan and Mexican artists.

Established artists in their own rights, Replicanth & Rodrigo Cortazar have created quite a stir with their production partnership. Their solo production material was recently featured on a host of high-profile imprints including BeatFreak Recordings and Balkan Connection and supported by a DJ glitterati that includes Hernan Cattaneo. First joining forces on the "Colossus Purple" track for NOPRESET Records in May 2017, the Mexican duo have gone on to feature for the likes of Natural Rhythm, Sudam Recordings and We Are Here Music.

Now making their collaborative debut on Yin, Replicanth & Rodrigo Cortazar take "Cancun" on a bouncing bass groove journey, backed by strong beat and off-kilter hats. Pad chord progressions from the original make their presence felt in richly textured layers, while additional production material, including a meandering vocal phrase, give a new focus to O'Neil's work.

'Dan Baseley aka Orsen returns to Replug Records for a much anticipated follow-up to his 'Driftwood' EP. Having gotten 2019 underway with a well received remix of Antrim's 'Trip To Red', the UK born, Austria based artist rounded out the summer season with a contribution to Hernan Cattaneo's Beatport #1 Balance compilation. Most recently and perhaps the year's highlight thus far was Dan's 'Ten' collaboration with Replug boss Cid Inc. Regarded as one of 2019's most sought after tracks, the joint production went on to top Beatport's Progressive House singles chart and remains a favourite of the genre's premiere tastemakers. Now returning to Replug for his first original project in over a year, Orsen presents his 'Falling In' artist showcase. 

Comprised of two tracks it's the peak time sensibility of the title cut which gets the EP underway. Sonically charged, it's rippling low end and buzzing rhythms converge in a ball of pulsating energy. The first act evolves with a veteran's savvy, building waves of momentum as piercing stabs and vivid tones add to its fiery drive. Putting emotion at a premium, the narrative shifts as cascading motifs take centre stage during the main break, sitting atop melodious bass swells, before a nostalgic roll sparks a commanding drop and euphoric finale. 

Rounding out the release and sitting as a lovely complement to its predecessor are the sleeker vibes of 'Modulator'. Known for sitting between creative spaces, Orsen's boundless ingenuity fuels this meditative gem. Warm and fluid from the outset, it's tranquil arps gently tease the senses, as a backdrop of hopeful atmospheres elevate mood across the first act. Cosmically intertwined, tonal clusters then advance the narrative, splitting moods between the surreal and emotive, making for a captivating interlude before perfectly segueing into a dreamy conclusion. 

With the 'Falling In' showcase Orsen has added another important chapter to his discography, one which continues to show imaginative ideas and thus artistic growth, setting up what should be a memorable 2020 for the Replug stalwart.'
