Beirut’s Bachir Salloum continues a prolific run of high-quality releases and label debuts, joining Akbal Music with four-tracker ‘Everything Is Now’. The rising talent hasn’t looked back since early support from Black Coffee, Damian Lazarus, Patrice Bäumel, Henry Saiz and more launched his international career.
The EP has a deliberately varied range of moods. ‘I wanted to create a variety of choices from intro tracks to bridge and peak time slots,’ says Bachir, whose sets deftly balance melody with emotion. 
‘Everything Is Now’ has an intriguing, slow start with mingling elements scattering impressions, picking up the pace with thoughtful piano fragments introduced during the extended breakdown. A more ambient contribution to the EP. 
‘Eclipse’ lays down a relentless percussive groove riffing on the central melody, with some growling synths and menacing horns in the background, gradually gaining in speed and force.  
‘Sunflower Fields’ starts with shaking maraccas and light bongo percussion, giving a sunny feel, before a complex bass riff kicks in, followed by a melody on pizzicato strings from the breakdown onwards. More of a rollocking pace to this one, a versatile track for your feet as much as your ears. The LADS remix brings humming, melancholic synth chords to the fore, with distant voices of children at play juxtaposed with them in the extended breakdown. 
‘I used the moog Sub 37 to write the main melodies for ‘Everything Is Now’ including omnisphere supporting pads and TR8 for drums. With ‘Sunflower Fields’ I used the TR8 to focus more on the groove. With ‘Eclipse’ I had the melody playing in my head one night in quarantine while I was sleeping; I woke up and wrote it straight away, then built the track around it.’
An alumnus of Beirut’s famous club scene, Salloum’s new EP is a worthy successor to his 3rd Avenue debut, joining imprints like Balance and Juicebox Music in his impressive back catalogue. Several more exciting releases are planned for this summer too, as his relentless rise continues.

The release opens with ‘Nostalgia’, instantly plunging you into the depths of melodically rich grooves and culturally inspired atmospheres. Its firm bed of rhythmic elements and delicate percussive accents pave the way for an array of live instruments and sweeping textures that Keep you firmly rooted in a trance-like state from beginning to end.

‘Alderbaran’ comes next, taking you on a stripped-back journey through a kaleidoscope of electronically rich harmonies and swaying beats. Effortlessly blending Melodic Techno and Organic House flavours, its concoction of poignant synth lines, bass tones and plucked string riffs carve out an undeniably touching record that resonates with your senses from the outset.

Guy Mantzur’s remix of ‘Nostalgia’ rounds off the release with uplifting energy from the start, channelling Afro-inspired drum work and gripping musicality throughout. Pulsating synths and striking piano lines lead the track down a winding path of profound frequencies and primal beats that speak to your soul and leave a lasting mark on your emotions.

Continuing a strong start to the year, Madloch's Sound Avenue imprint welcomes Mariner + Domingo back to the label for a new EP. Enjoying a speedy rise through the landscape of organic and progressive house, the US duo showcased their music on a host of highly regarded imprints across 2020. Releases via Balkan Connection, RYNTH, The Purr, and Stellar Fountain further highlighted the duo's exotic sound. Now following the November release of their Sound Avenue debut 'Le' Carnival', the Florida residents make a return to the label with 'Move On'. 

In what continues to be a fruitful partnership, Mariner + Domingo craft two of their finest cuts to date beginning with 'Another Life'. Warm beats, submerged bass, and rolling percussion set the piece in motion, as vocal phrasing and prophetic tones encase the framework. The vocal storyboard expands as the first act evolves, eventually shifting energy and mood into an emotive second act. Concise and haunting, Mediterranean motifs drift across the centrepiece, gently blanketed with misty melodies as the groove drops for a spirited finale.

The title selection 'Walk On' follows suit with an equally impressive display of rhythm and musicality. Spacious and groovy, it's a creation built around exotic drums, dulcet tones and blissful vocals. Cascading pianos and wispy effects converge as the first act unfolds, eventually melting down into a vocal-led break. Soulful wails drift in timeless suspension, as a trail of poignant pianos shifts energy into a percussive finale. It rounds out an exceptional EP from Mariner + Domingo, who make a welcome return to Sound Avenue as the year begins.
