PREMIERE: Tuba Twooz — Ki (Original Mix) [Hidden Vibes]

Berlin-based storyteller Powel has spoiled us.

He delivers four completely unique records, each knocking through the speakers with fierce percussion, and melodies that glide and fly, carrying the listener off to somewhere else. On each cut, he exhibits his mastery of joyful keys and exquisite drum programming, never missing the opportunity to craft delicious, exciting grooves that are sure to ring out around clubs worldwide.

The title track, RAD, shares the same name as the 1986 film, which inspired the EP, and it takes us on a progressive journey, with beautiful synth pads and subtle vocal manipulations layered over a strong, knocking drum beat that builds in intensity as the track progresses.

Not content with stopping there, Powel cuts in and out with stunning synth lines and a snare drum that instantly makes your head bounce — a statement of intent for the quality of music that is to follow on this EP.

The project's second song, Out Of Fashion, instantly catches the listener's attention with a stiff, marching beat, eerie stabs and a manipulated vocal sample that swings around the drums. But quickly, the vocoder melts into a gorgeous, pulsating synth line that is urgently propelled along by the percussion towards its crescendo.

Then we're transported deep into Powel's mind for the third cut, where he treats us to a gorgeous slice of melodic goodness on Wine & Cigarettes. It is good-natured and has an old-school groove that grips you and promises to never let go.

And suddenly, just like that, we reach Ode To A Carrot, which takes the form of a euphoric dream, set in a warehouse party in the 90s. Powel serves us a fat, squelchy bassline that is unlike anything else we have heard from him before.

Meshed with wavy pads and a pounding kick drum to create a funky dancefloor anthem, this acts as the perfect closer for a body of work that speaks volumes about a producer who seems incapable of producing mediocre music.

As if that wasn't already enough, the EP is complete with a remix package featuring Haider Uppal and Timo Chinala, Mark Slee, Lauren Ritter, and Brigade. Again, each remix takes the original track in a completely unexpected direction, delighting the listener and highlighting every moment of joy from Powel's original creations.

Canadian sensation Gab Rhone has come a long way since breaking onto the scene in 2013 with a release on Guy Gerber’s Supplemental Facts label. Starting out as a DJ in his hometown, it wasn’t long before his natural ability was recognised and he quickly progressed into the big leagues, with music now signed to everyone from Lee Burridge’s All Day I Dream to Sasha’s Last Night On Earth. 
Capturing those warm analogue feels with soft melody is a trademark for Gab, who unleashes more delight with opener ‘I’ve Made The Bed’. Groovy hats, a swinging bassline and sweet vocals make this a joy to hear from start to finish. On remix duties UK-based Francesca Lombardo deepens the groove for a late night wig out, teasing the main motifs into a darker sound. Fellow Canadians, Baham, create a new atmosphere with their sparse, jazz-influenced take. Sombre muted trumpet and vocal word samples take this to new heights. 
Moving on to their second original production, ‘Don’t Take Advices From Me’, a disco-y bongo groove and saw-toothed bass lead the way. Vocodered vocals midway add a nice curveball for the more refined floors. Sora take a wholly different approach completely reimagining the track with tinkling arps and an air of hopefulness.

Exclusive Einar Stray Orchestra 'Synthesis (Constantijn Lange Remix)'

The never released track 'Primitive' from Norwegian Indie band Einar Stray Orchestra finally sees the light of day and comes with another four tracks that were originally released on the band's album 'Dear Bigotory' earlier this year but now get a remix treatment. Berlin based producer Constantijn Lange, known for his works on labels such as Laut&Luise and Traum Schallplatten, follows a hypnotically driven approach of 'Synthesis' by using a lead synth that allows the band's vocals enough space to enfold. In the course of the track the vocals are sustained by both Constantijn's sense for a subtle groove and his knowledge of including enriching soundscapes to the track that create a harmonizing result of music. 

Einar Stray Orchestra's EP 'Primitive', including Constantijn Lange's remix of 'Synthesis' will be released November 3rd, 2017 on Sinnbus.

trndmsk: What inspired you to produce the EP?

Fulltone: I got inspired to produce “C’est bon” during my last visit to Paris, "C’est bon" was one of the sentences I kept hearing while walking through the beautiful streets of Paris, surrounded by the beautiful architecture and history. When I got back to the studio I had an idea of making a track that would capture the vibes I was getting during my trip. 

The idea of “Mahe’” came to me during my trip to Seychelles and got inspired by the mesmerizing out of this world nature, Mahe’ is the name of the Capital of Seychelles and I wanted to make a music piece that breathes and reflects the beauty I was in during my trip. 

Where did you record it? And how?

The whole EP was recorded at my studio in Cairo using all my beloved gear! 

With "Mahe" I used a Charango (South American stringed instrument), a kalimba and a classical guitar for the main melodies, all recorded using an AKG C414 Mic and SSL preamp going to a universal audio Apollo interface. For the beats I used my Elektron analog rytm and some field recording I did with my iPhone. For the bass I went for my go to synth for bass the Moog sub37 and also used bass guitar for the baseline during the first part of the song. I remember also using a Gibson J45 acoustic guitar to play the main riff.

“C’est bon” I started with the groove and struggled for a while to find a nice hook for it, then one day my step sister was at the studio and she has a beautiful voice, I had an idea of recording some vocal pads playing the chords of the track, so we recorded each note of each chord of the whole chord progression and I still felt something was missing, so I tried a trick I had read about a while ago, I side-chained a gate on the vocal pads triggered by a programmed hihat pattern and instantly got that stuttering effect you hear on the vocals on the drop, the rest was all fine crafting to finalize the track.

How did you get in contact with the record label?

Klassified label owners (Julien and Thomas AKA Parallells) are very close friends of mine that I consider family. When we decided to release a Fulltone EP on their label I sent them some tracks but highlighted that C’est bon and Mahe were my favorites, they agreed and here we are now :)) EP is about to go out with fantastic remixes from Audiofly & Jonas Saalbach 

What’s up next after the release? Are you working on any other projects? 

I have a few releases in the pipe line, I have an EP coming out early next year on Keller Berlin with an amazing remix from Powel, a podcast for All Day I Dream, a remix for my dear friends ElMundo & PHCK coming out on Earthly Delights and finally a collab track with “a surprise” coming out on “another surprise”.
