Ruben Karapetyan’s RKP imprint arrives in exciting fashion with a much anticipated single from the label boss himself. Born in Armenia but now calling Los Angeles home, Ruben Karapetyan has carved out a unique place in the electronic underground. His emotive synth leads, cross-cultural motifs and tough, dancefloor minded grooves have made for a resonant worldly sound that is all his own. Following a ten-year hiatus, Ruban made a triumphant return to electronic music in 2020 with a series of the releases via Mango Alley, Movement Recordings, The Soundgarden and Univack. On the strength of his fresh, progressive sound Ruben quickly earned praise from the genre’s trendsetters in Hernan Cattaneo and Nick Warren, while also becoming a regular in Beatport’s competitive sales charts. Now, as one of the genre’s most in demand talents, Ruben launches his RKP imprint with ‘Nostalgic Recall’, alongside remixes from Michael A and Hobin Rude.

As a much requested track from Ruben’s recent sets, 'Nostalgic Recall’ finds the Los Angeles resident at his creative best. Instantly seductive, its contoured grooves, flashing percussive arrangements and dubbed out chord stabs drive each other into a whirlpool of spiraling directions, making for a flexible club track that bends between moods, while injecting vibrant energy into the dancefloor. 'Higher States opens the summer season by showcasing new interpretations of Roger Martinez's 'De Machtige Trip'. With a career now spanning well over a decade, Roger's transcendent style has long been a favourite of the world's top DJs. Cid Inc, Eelke Kleijn, John Digweed, Guy J, Hernan Cattaneo, Nick Warren and Sasha have all been steadfast supporters over the years, and remain as progressive music continues to grow and evolve. Sitting prominently on Roger's resume as one of his most well-received tracks has been 'De Machtige Trip'. Released in 2013 via GEM Records, the production was beloved for its timeless musicality and pristine techno framework, ultimately finding a place in a wide assortment of DJ sets. Now, looking to breathe new life into the track for 2023's summer season, Higher States invites Alex O'Rion and Roger himself to re-imagine the production in their own essence.

Leading the release off is Roger’s 2023 rendition which once again proves his craft must be taken to heart. Rather than burst into a dancefloor whirlwind or electronic symphony, Roger’s update evokes its emotions through slow burn repetition. Dodging expectations and emphasizing its conceptual charm, it paints idyllic scenes of solitude, as hypnagogic arps unveil a semi-conscious dreamland powered by perfectly manicured beats and rebounding rhythms, before the Dutch artist's melodic attitude reveals itself during a second act of colourful synth phrasing and mesmerizing progression. 

Making a return to the label with the second and final interpretation of ‘De Machtige Trip’ is Alex O’Rion. Rising out of a successful career as a trance producer, Dutch artist Alex O’Rion took inspiration from the likes of John Digweed, Nick Warren and Sasha, to forge a path into the world of progressive house. Alex’s groovy melodic sound found its footing quickly thereafter, as he notched releases via Nick Warren’s Hope Recordings and Hernan Cattaneo’s Sudbeat Music. Moving forward, 2020 proved to be a breakout year for the Nijkerk resident. On the strength of projects for Replug and The Soundgarden, Alex rose to Beatport’s #3 best-selling progressive house producer, paving the way for releases via Guy J’s Lost and Found and UK behemoth Anjunabeats. Having continued on an upwards trajectory moving forward, Alex now sits comfortably amongst the genre’s elite as he continues to tour the world, delighting crowds with his impeccable taste and exquisite programming skills. Having made his Higher States debut in 2020 with ‘Imagine’, an EP co-produced with Antrim, Alex now makes a welcome return to the label with a groovy take on ‘De Machtige Trip’. While maintaining the uplifting spirit of the original, the Dutch phenom crafts a sweeping sonic experience all his own, a deep hypnotic journey where voluptuous basslines provide the backbone for invigorating melodies and balmy textures to surface from their rhythmic architecture, onwards to a finale of emotive grooves and speaker-buzzing revelry.'

Division is the sound of two minds pulling in different directions—and landing somewhere unexpectedly unified. The debut EP from Amsterdam-based producers Malvae and Jaro, Division is a study in contrast and convergence: jungle and ambient, machine and field, memory and forward motion.

Malvae, raised between the Netherlands and New Zealand, is known for sculpting rich, tactile soundscapes from field recordings, analog gear, and chopped vocals—building worlds that feel both handcrafted and alien. His solo work (Amazonas, Chrysalis) channels natural textures into club contexts, never settling into one genre for too long. Jaro, by contrast, comes from the indie-electronica lineage, weaving Thom Yorke-esque vocals, crooked grooves, and emotive synthwork into projects like Morning Light and soundtracks for theatre and podcast.

Though they studied together years ago, Division marks their first proper release as collaborators—a record shaped as much by the space between them as their shared musical instincts. One of its standout tracks, “This Side,” was born from a shelved techno project, resuscitated and reimagined amid Jaro’s studio clutter. The name comes from the plywood studio fixtures still bearing a faded shipping label: this side up.

The EP folds together decades of influence: the lurching swing of Antipodean d’n’b, the atmospheric density of Amsterdam’s club nights, and a shared love for making non-club music that still works in the club. Analog synths hiss alongside jungle-adjacent percussion; melodies bend and unravel, only to reform under new light. There’s tension here, but not conflict—just the friction required for ignition.

At its core, Division is about duality: two artists, two geographies, multiple timelines of unfinished ideas colliding and completing one another. It’s a study in full-circle moments—culturally, sonically, spiritually.
