MANIK’s star has been rising for the past few years, and this latest release on Poker Flat Recordings suggests the young New Yorker has a lot up his sleeve for 2016. Having already dropped dancefloor bombs on the likes of Hot Creations and Ovum, and spun everywhere from Panorama Bar to Womb in Tokyo, the Weights and Measures EP solidifes his emerging reputation as fresh voice on the scene. 

The release kicks off with 'Thirsty Crow' - a tightly wound groove that breaks down the barriers between house and techno effortlessly. The track builds around an infectious synth melody, and the interplay between various percussive elements - all designed for maximum damage on the dancefloor.

Weights & Measures' is a deeply acidic affair that finds space for some luscious pads to break the tension, while 'Complexity' riffs off a classic house vibe but throws in some deeply leftfield sounds and rhythms for the heads.

'Heard One' (a Beatport- only exclusive) also takes its cue from classic Chicago sounds, but updates it with some distinctly contemporary flavour and vocals from MC Kew G.

Hot on the heels of our Doza release, we are now heading to Belgium to present you @Deeligentsoul, the new project of Arnaud and Seb AKA @Souldust & @Deeleegenz. While these 2 veterans of Brussels’ nightlife scene launched their new project fairly recently, they have already caused a stir in the underground scene by releasing EPs for the likes of Electronical Reeds, Large Music and Nite Grooves.
It was after they met @Giom at a recent gig that a mutual friendship was born and a collar soon ensued. Written between London and Brussels, Undefined State kicks off the EP with its its bouncy groove, subby bass-line, catchy analog synth riff and vocal samples. Following up is the Giom remix, taking things deeper with his signature sound. This one offers a sexier take on the title track while retaining all the main musical elements. Finally, we round off the EP with Makes Me Feel, a meticulously produced track that shows off the boys’ studio techniques and is the ideal balance between deep and funky.

The Dortmund based imprint released its first instalment back in 2011 including tracks by label owners Tube & Berger and Juliet Sikora. Since then the established series has hosted the likes of Daniel Steinberg, Basti Grub, Bakermat, Wild Culture, Paji, Volkoder and Veerus & Maxie Devine. This time round ten exclusive productions appear on a well-rounded package featuring newcomers such as the Netherland’s Nothing But Funk, Italians FreakMe and Soul Of Void & JazzyFunk, UK’s Boxer & Jay Newman and Brazilian producer Bruce Leroys. Joining them is legendary Spanish producer Wally Lopez alongside known faces such as the UK’s Timo Garcia and Germany’s Agent! & Dompe, Masch+Yuko and Nico Pusch & Tom Pusch.

Kick-starting the package, Agent! & Dompe’s ‘Shake’ is an infectious vocal cut that leads into the twisted ‘Fresh Blood’ by Timo Garcia. Roland Clark’s legendary voice appears in Masch+Yuko’s ‘Talking About House’ that’s been reimagined into a rhythmic roller by Anthik & Felipe Puertes, before Wally Lopez drops a shuffling cut with plenty of groove in ‘A Monday Night In Ibiza’. Nothing But Funk ‘Game Changer’ is a percussive workout, whereas Boxer & Jay Newman ‘You Can Do It’ combines a rumbling low-end with a cacophony of vocals and effects.

Things turn moody in Bruce Leroys ‘Inside My Brain’ before the intricately produced ‘Time' by Nico Pusch & Tom Pusch demonstrates melodies and ethereal atmospherics. Nearing the end, Freak Me ‘Deeper’ sees tantalising synths join epic breakdowns until Soul Of Void & Jazzyfunk conclude the release with a subterranean number named ‘Never (Dub Mix)’.
