Born in London and having lived in Bristol, James Laing (@soundsfromthenightgarden) draws from the sounds of both cities, alongside his musical knowledge which he has gained during his classical compositional training. With releases on Melifera, Indefinite Pitch & Beatrice M's hybrid Dubstep label, Bait, Night Garden aims to create richly psychedelic & hypnotic pieces which combine modern sound design with classical theoretical concepts.

“Dubstep has been one of my favourite genres of music for years but I’ve often found it tricky to place alongside the deeper techno I usually mix. At the beginning of
this summer, dubstep is pretty much all I was listening to, so, when I was presented the opportunity to close a party I attended in Umbria in June, I thought I’d try and solve this issue. This mix builds from deep dubstep through to high-energy techno via more abstract forms of 140 in the centre.”

Shinsuke Goto, curator and resident DJ at Tokyo’s Mitsuki, contributes a finely tuned mix for this edition of Unrush. I heard him play in Tokyo in 2024, where his DJ set revealed a deep sensitivity for the trippier side of electronic music - a quality that also flows through this mix.

Here, Shinsuke explores spacious soundscapes and intricate layers of sound design, moving between stillness and subtle motion. Mostly beatless, yet punctuated by gentle rhythmic currents, the mix unfolds with quiet tension and release. It’s a carefully shaped piece that draws the listener in through detail, texture, and a refined sense of flow.

The night had turned cold by the time Camu began, but inside La Cabaña, everything felt suspended: warm light, still bodies, a low hum stretching through wood and pine. People settled into corners, wrapped in layers, quieted by the vibration that marked the start. The music felt transmitted, its slow-moving drones drifting through the wooden walls and into the forest beyond. The sound rolled out like fog under moonlight, patient, opaque, its motion too subtle to measure. It was music to dissolve into.
Minutes became air. The cabin started to tremble. Camu’s sense of space was uncanny, each drone a line drawn in mist, each pause a small release of gravity. Later came the fragments: field recordings, faint acapellas, echoes of the forest replayed from another world. By then, the cabin no longer felt grounded. It was a stationary vessel, hovering somewhere between the trees and the stars, surrounded by invisible energy. Somewhere, just beyond the clearing, Pablo’s bass murmured like thunder in a parallel world. When silence finally returned, it wasn’t emptiness; it was the echo of what had passed through.

Margaux Gazur is a French-Vietnamese sound artist and multi-instrumentalist based in Berlin. Drawing from electronic music, musique concrète, classical, and experimental jazz, she creates textured compositions using acoustic instruments, everyday objects, and field recordings. Her work explores memory and environment, often combining sound with other disciplines to craft immersive sensory experiences. Margaux co-founded Hanoi’s first alternative art venue and a multidisciplinary collective, and she is part of the Berlin-based collective Weich, fostering collaboration and exploration across mediums and genres.

Mostra is a small-format festival in Barcelona dedicated to avant-garde and experimental electronic music 🖤.

Thirteen years after their landmark debut, Italian duo Voices From The Lake (Donato Dozzy & Neel) return with their much-anticipated second album, ‘II’ (two) on their own Spazio Disponibile.The record marks a new chapter in one of electronic music’s most revered projects.

Born from a friendship and a singular musical vision, Voices From The Lake first emerged as a one-off live performance in the Japanese Alps, later distilled into their self-titled 2012 album. That record has since become a touchstone in ambient techno, reshaping the global landscape of hypnotic and atmospheric electronic music. In the years since, the duo have performed worldwide, released a handful of EPs, worked on installations, and founded record labels, all while continuing to refine the project’s unique identity. Yet the core of Voices From The Lake has always been its deep, aqueous approach to sound, a sensibility that returns in full force on II.

“The project was never meant to become what it did,” the duo reflect. “At one point, we even paused it. Only to later embrace it in all its forms. II is both a continuation and a reinvention.” True to that spirit, Voices From The Lake have explored extremes in recent years, from high-tempo live sets to seated listening concerts, while remaining anchored in the meditative pulse of ambient techno. II extends this lineage, carrying forward the immersive sound design and boundary-pushing vision that has defined their work from the beginning.

A rising figure in the French mental and deep techno scene, Nantes-based artist @akira_petitelola , of Japanese and Brazilian heritage, has made her mark through meticulously crafted selections, blending a progressive and storytelling approach with a subtle trance dimension that echoes her early days as a DJ within the @zone-rouge-zone-rouge collective.

Today, she honors us by sharing the recording of her opening set from the third day of Per:sona Festival 2025, curated by the @positiveeducationfest crew.
It’s never an easy task to lead ravers into their first dance of the day, yet she carried it out with remarkable finesse and authenticity.

We were there, and we’re truly excited to finally share this set with you today.
