Elevating an already unique approach of sonic craftsmanship to whole new levels, the London based producer delivers some of his wildest and most dramatic compositions to date while pushing further his signature blend of 22nd century dancefloor pyrotechnics.

From the angelic vocal cascades of opener « Leven Lever Liver Love » to the heart-wrenching heights of « Bullet Time », a playful and intricate display of cross-pollinated emotions shines through this collection of boundary pushing tracks, giving them a life of their own while bringing a stormy cycle of auditory experiments into human nature to completion

As thunderstorms form, pollen grains often ascend into clouds, soaking up humidity to a point they inevitably burst out, liberating innumerable particles that tumultuous winds send back to ground-levels.

With a false sense of distance and safety, we sit back and watch the lightning strike in complete awe, unaware of pollen slowly descending from the skies, making its way through our lungs and deep into our bodies ; the storm may be over, but Pollen has now fully become a part of us.

They lived in darkness most of the time, it was all they'd ever known. Here, the sun only shone for a few hours a day before night took hold and they were bathed in the dark once again. It drained the energy from the village, flattening the mood and dampening people's spirit. On the other hand, the light brought with it hope, hope that someday they'd find something beyond this existence - and they'd cling on to that feeling for as long as they had to.

Ransom Note Records alumni Natasha Bai is starting her own label, Друг (Droog) Records. For the first release, the DJ and producer welcomes Oberton, the musical pairing of Eldar Mukhomedzyanov and Alexei Vainer whose output matches infectious electronic beats with spoken word. С​в​е​т​о​т​е​н​ь, is made up of three tracks that introduce us to their signature style. On our pick, closing track 'Оторопь', the duo ruminate on the "anticipation of fear, a feeling of incoming conjectures and experiences", and tells the tale of the disappointment that comes from a one-sided love story, but in the face of rejection always continuing to have hope.

Our first release of the year sees Kincaid land on Redstone Press with an expansive four-tracker. Having recently relocated to Berlin, Joe’s first work since moving sets out his direction musically as well as geographically.

“Don’t Get No Sun” kicks off proceedings with an anxious energy that bubbles away under the surface throughout. Haunting ambience, warped vocals and staggering textures finally give way to heavy 4/4 pressure.

“On Hands” dispenses with nuance in favour of scalpel-like percussion and UK-inflected vocal snapshots, creating a fast-paced cut with just enough head-frying synth lines to keep you dizzy.

“Gutter” takes a calmer, more measured approach but with the same focus, incisive drum work and vocal chopping but aimed at those loose moments at the start and end of the night.

“Getting More Sun” closes out the EP with more intimacy and space. Ethereal synths replace vocals and club energy in this more tranquil number. Perfect for that post-club wind-down.

Heavyweight odes to the UK hardcore continuum from Tallinn via Toronto label Surve Records. The collaborative project of Dima Disk is shaped by bass, breaks, metallic percussion and the kind of background synth washes found on early dubstep, UKG and Metalheadz records alike. With a clear penchant for the colder, more alien variety of 5am warehouse rollers than those on a soulful tip, the duo of Ragnar Rahuoja and Robert Nikolajev waste no time setting the tone for their first EP since 2017s Fetty on the in-house label of electronic music vanguards Rubadub.

Showing an evolution in both production and palette, Pahakas retains the concern for chest-rattling soundsystem pressure but advances on the slightly lo-fi sound design of the pairs last outing. The ‘Feel the sound’ sample clatters around razor sharp, 130bpm + breakbeats and a rolling sub that nods to golden era Peverelist on opening cut ‘U R A Gem’. On ‘Betty’ and ‘MLBT’ the more spacey, ambient end of the genre are given a look but retain the overall atmosphere of the EP whilst ‘2kSamba’ ups the tempo and leans toward a mutant hybrid of early 2000s UK prog and contemporary bass music. Essential dance equipment for you and yours!
