This is the first EP taken from Detroit Swindle’s upcoming debut album “Boxed Out” to be released on the 24th of March 2014 on Dirt Crew Recordings.

To heaten up the anticipation on the long awaited debut album by Amsterdam’s finest Lars Dales and Maarten Smeets we give you three tracks from the album as a little teaser to what is to come on the full length. First up is the title track “Huh, What!” a true Detroit Swindle banger that takes us back to pumping Chicago old school house times. Much like their last EP on Dirt Crew that included “John Doe” this new tune will (and we don’t like this expression but can’t think of another way to explain the sheer brutal power of this track) “destroy” the dancefloors!

If that wasn’t enough bass in your face we got Leon Vynehall and A1 Bassline under their “Laszlo Dancehall” moniker to rip ‘Huh, What!’ to shreds, resulting in a dark, pounding, straight up jackin’ techno groove. Very raw and edgy, tweaking the original’s key elements perfectly to join the dark groove going on. Definitely not for the faint of heart.

The B-Side takes us back to that sweet and deep Detroit Swindle house groove. “The Fat Rat” is much in the style of their last “The Make Up to Break Up” release on their own “Heist” imprint. A groovy percussive and soulful stabby house excursion, Amsterdam to Detroit via New York and back!

“Monkey Wrench”, the last track on this EP, is just beautiful and quite possibly one of the highlight down tempo house tracks of the Album. It has this slow groove we all love from the Swindle’s and a combo between the warm sound of the rhodes and the electronic feel of the arpy bass that really makes you love the track more and more each time you play it.

Metereze keeps a steady path of releases and this time around it is young star Vincent Iulian who picks up the ball and delivers four astounding tracks on his Four Quarters Ep. Also a native of Bacau like Dubtil and Raresh among others Vincent has already released on labels like Naural or Moment.

Started is probably the grooviest of them all and for sure you’ve heard it before if you’ve been attending the right parties. Breaking the boundries between techno and house this is a true masterpiece. On the same side he also shows a more relaxed atmosphere filled with jazzy percussions and easy synths. Stors kinda makes you stop and dream for a while.

First on side B we have another dancefloor monster. No more is is driven by a hypnotic synth and infused with enough drums to keep you on the move for the whole 7 minutes. Le van a cantar keeps the catchy driving mood but this time Iulian explores a more broken path. Bubbly voices, snares and a haunted synth emerging now and then make this corner as interesting as the rest.

Four Quarters is a must have for any serious collector. Not to mention if you’re a dj.

No nonsense house stable Holic Trax turn to accomplished producer and DJ Ekkohaus for their next EP. The Greek producer serves up four brilliantly robust jams that come on limited 12” coloured vinyl (with a bonus track) as well as digitally.
Ekkohaus has been leading the house scene from the front for more than a decade now. His infectious, perfectly paired down and groove driven style is experimental as well as being much loved by DJs and dancers. He has turned out a fine full length on regular label home Moon Harbour and singles on others like Mule, Cargo Edition, 2020 Vision and Holic Trax before now.
Up first here is ‘Corner People,’ with a prying synth line that burrows deep into the night as blobs and droplets of colour rain down next to it. The underlying drums are slick and smooth and the overall effect is brilliantly hypnotic. The fantastically fresh ‘Shout It Out’ then goes fast and deep into a world of liquid pads and spiralling chords. Whispered vocals add a sensual heat and the swiftness of the groove cannot fail to carry you away in fine fashion.
‘New Tricks’ has meaty, roughhewn drums driving it along and is nice and frayed and analogue around the edges. Curious stabs and rattling, DIY perc sounds percolate up through the mix on this most macho of deep house tracks. Lastly, vinyl only effort ‘Because of You’ is a slick, syrupy deep house cut with wavy, bendy tones, terrifically playful melodies and a charming sense of colour littering it from start to finish.
This EP is stuffed with perfectly feel good house music that works the soul as well as the sole.

Take a look over Ashley Burchett’s back catalogue and you’ll find the Greater London resident has played an understated yet influential role in purporting British techno. Fifteen years ago Burchett’s prevailing Ø [Phase] project debuted on Sheree Rashit and Steve Bicknell’s Cosmic Recordings before providing Cosmic ID with its final record in 2002, and since 2007 Burchett's helped mould and define the sound of Token by becoming the label’s marquee artist.

In 2013 the Belgian imprint finally coaxed the debut album from Ø [Phase], Frames Of Reference, described in Tony Naylor’s 4/5 review for Resident Advisor as, “a techno album of real imagination and depth that, when it needs to be, is brutally functional.” Almost two years since its release Ø [Phase] is back with Alone In Time?, his second studio album which adds to the continuous slew of unrivalled long players Token has put out of late. Token spreads the 11-tracks on Alone In Time? across three heavy weight discs, and the music further demonstrates Burchett’s deft skill in linear arrangements shaped to fit the warehouse frame, while painting a colourful, Detroit influenced side to his productions yet to really be heard to this extent before.

This uncharted sound of Ø [Phase] can be found in tracks like “Remote”, the album’s homage to electro, to the jittery, alien grooves of “Spacialize”, “Mo_del” and “Nep-tune”. There’s big room domination on productions like “Orbitron” and “R-Mash”, while the album’s title-track is a journey through Burchett’s conceptual references to cosmology, time and isolation. Burchett explains, "it was always an intention to make another album and now just felt like the right time. Life moves on, we change and grow. As lessons get learned and ideas form, the desire to express them gradually manifests."

Furthermore, Burchett adds, “Frames Of Reference was about overcoming personal struggles and challenges, while Alone In Time? is more forward facing.” With an extensive back catalogue in his wake, Ø [Phase] has become a relied source for the discerning techno DJ and these new, expertly crafted club cuts add to his ever-expanding pool of productions for selectors to choose from, and it’s clear, if the bouncing rhythm of “Blind Eye” and orchestral epic of “The Maze” is anything to go by, Ø [Phase] isn’t only head strong, but standing tall.

Title track Fractious kicks off the release and fires out an electrifying synth hook, giving the track an instant percussive element, backed by simple and effect drums that keep a steady groove. Slam's experience of production shines through on this as each refined component glides seamlessly together to produce a powerful, pulsating track. 

Serpent takes an even darker route with a subtly evolving 303 baseline that lurks menacingly in the background allowing edgy variants to ebb their way in slowly, adding to the already tense vibe created throughout. A perfect DJ tool for those surreal moments. 

As Slam & Soma build toward their 25th year, the duo show why they have been at the forefront of Techno with this expertly produced and dynamic release.
