In a techno scene often steeped in masculine energy, Zya (Ioana) emerges as a bold feminine force, reshaping genre boundaries with fearless creativity. Rising up to shake the status quo, her Orange EP showcases her innate talent for crafting richly nuanced sonic artefacts.

Ploiești-born and Sunwaves-shaped since its debut, she weaves tracks that unfold with the hypnotic grace of a summer sunset, yet strike with the raw intensity of a brutalist landmark. Her debut EP embodies this artistry, its essence vividly mirrored in Adrian Popoiu’s striking sleeve artwork.

“There are times when I choose specific names for my tracks based on my current state or the situations I'm facing" Zya confesses, an evocative approach that places her well among the visionary storytellers of Romania’s cultural legacy, channeling the spirit of its poetic greats. 

Reflecting on the EP’s creation, Ioana adds: "Orange" was started I think in the same day as my track "Purple" which caught Arno's ear for Pressure Traxx' X Files series. Looks like that was a truly inspired day and I must admit "Orange" was one of the preferred ones for me."

Ani004 marks a pivotal moment for Animism Records, delivering a versatile VA that captures the label’s evolving sound. 

Thoma Bulwer opens with a breaks-and-garage-infused cut, setting a crisp and percussive tone. Tommy Vicari Jnr follows with a bassline-driven house stomper, primed for peak-time floors, while US producer John Manhard brings a deep, rolling groove to B1. 

Closing the VA, Tred Benedict shifts the energy with a warm ambient piece, rounding off this finely balanced release.

Guile - The Crack E.P.

In 2013, while playing a gig abroad, I shared this track with the promoter who had booked me. A few years later it somehow ended up on a DJ's USB stick (without my approval) and was played in a YouTube stream of his set that racked up a fair number of views. The track was IDed in the comments and since then I’ve had ongoing requests to release it. Since fitting 23 minutes on a vinyl record (at a decent level) is impossible and as I didn’t want to split it across 2 sides, I’ve decided to release it on Bandcamp:

Manos Hadjidakis was a Greek composer & theorist of Greek music, widely regarded as one of the greatest Greek composers of all time. He died in 1994 leaving behind a body of work of profound beauty (musical & philosophical), intertwining the Eastern & Western musical traditions through the scope of his Greek gaze. I grew up with Manos Hadjidakis' music, as back in the 80s and 90s it was taught to children from kindergarten till high school, which left a deep imprint on me.

This remix was produced in 2013 as a tribute to the composer. I sampled his 1973 LP The Wanderer, the Drunken Girl, and Alcibiades. It is far from his best known material, a rather obscure release among his most celebrated works. I chose it because the haunting atmosphere of the LP fits the electronic music scene narrative perfectly. The Wanderer represents the restless modern man searching for meaning through music. The Drunken Girl symbolises innocence but also the intoxication of youth. Alcibiades (the famously controversial Athenian from classical Ancient Greece) becomes a metaphor for ambition, corruption, charm and betrayal. Therefore, the original LP is a musical allegory on the human experience
