Maha Shivaratri is, hands down, one of the most beautiful festivals for a Hindu, especially in Mauritius!

The beauty behind Maha Shivaratri is not only the devotion towards Lord Shiva, but how it brings our multicultural island as one for Hindu pilgrims!

It is about the pride and dedication it takes to build Kanwars, no matter how big or small, always resulting in admiration and awe. 

It is about the satisfaction of reaching Ganga Talao (Grand Bassin) and feeling the serenity of its atmosphere, especially on a calm, misty night. 

It is about people walking from all around the island, be it men, women, children, elders who are greeted with warmth and served with meals every step of the way. It is about pilgrims being welcomed by strangers into the comfort their homes. 

If anything, Maha Shivaratri is a festival that revives the essence of humanity; a festival that brings us as one big family.
