Two excerpts from the electronic part of "protostellar" for the Flannau Duo (https://www.kyleflens.com/flannau-duo.html)

Many of the electronic sounds in "protostellar" are sonifications of publicly available data from the attached photo of the Cosmic Cliffs, the first publicly released photo of a star-forming region in the Carina Nebula from NASA's James Webb Space Telescope.

קול דממה דקה - A Still, Thin Voice

There are many examples of sacred works depicting a person's aspiration to elevate themselves through prayer. "A Light is Sown for the Pious" flips this notion around and rather sees this individual looking inward for solace, acknowledging their humanity and their fallibility in the presence of G-d.

Based on the Kabbalist prayer "Ana Bekoach" (We Beg Thee) uses descending lines and clashing tonal centres as the individual reckons with their anguish until ultimately finding the strength of their faith again.

A Light is Sown for the Pious

"Dance in Defiance" is composed for chamber ensemble, inspired an excerpt from Stephen King's novel, "11/22/63". The life of a divorced English teacher Jake Epping, is turned upside down in 2011, as an old friend asks him to travel back in time to 1963 to stop the assassination of President John F. Kennedy. Struggling with the consequences of his interference, Jake presents his worldview with the following: 

"For a moment everything was clear, and when that happens you see that the world is barely there at all. Don't we all secretly know this? It's a perfectly balanced mechanism of shouts and echoes pretending to be wheels and cogs, a dreamclock chiming beneath a mystery-glass we call life. Behind it? Below it and around it? Chaos, storms. Men with hammers, men with knives, men with guns. Women who twist what they cannot dominate and belittle what they cannot understand. A universe of horror and loss surrounding a single lighted stage where mortals dance in defiance of the dark."
