Thank you for given me the opportunity to play at your legendary Katzen birthday spectacle. I remember coming to your 40th birthday and being first time at Kater. It was the weekend where my life completely changed and ACID FLORA was born. 

Coming back each year is something in my agenda ever since. However this year it was extra special because I was given the chance to play at Acid Bogen for the 2nd time this year BUT your birthday made it even more special to me! Thank you for closing the circle of my wishes and believing in me by giving me a chance. I think everybody needs someone in their life who believes in them and gives them a chance.

You have inspired me since day one and it was love at the first hear! 

Playing this set has been my personal highlight. I've been super nervous, shaky and my hands where sweating crazy.

Above & Beyond return to the dancefloor with ‘Tranquility Base Vol. 1’, a collection of five heavy-hitting club records, calling back to their instrumental roots. 

The GRAMMY-nominated founders of Anjunabeats have been quiet of late. Following six months of studio hibernation after their sold-out Group Therapy 500 celebrations at Banc of California Stadium last October, Jono, Paavo and Tony have been busy working on their next extended project. Enter ‘Tranquility Base Vol. 1’, a collection of five heavy-hitting club records, calling back to their instrumental roots. 

Drawing inspiration from all areas of contemporary electronic music, ‘Tranquillity Base Vol. 1’ features five tracks debuted in front of 25,000 fans in Los Angeles last October; ranging from the rolling grooves of ‘Spin Off’, to the darker atmospheric techno of ‘VLEKNO’.
 
The name of the EP series references A&B’s beloved Tranquility Base alias, which was revered for its contribution to the trance genre, including iconic records such as ‘Surrender’, ‘Oceanic’ and ‘Razorfish’. The ‘Tranquility Base EP’ series showcases the current instrumental records firmly lodged in Jono, Paavo and Tony’s record boxes. 

“In the same way the quieter moments on our albums have always been a major part of Above & Beyond, the bigger dancefloor moments have also been a hallmark of our sound” says the trio.

The full 5-track EP, ‘Tranquility Base Vol. 1’, is available now across all platforms.

In 2015 a style of music came to light that was seemingly spawned out of Soundcloud. This sound is something created by producers with an ear for emotive, ethereal soundscapes, often drawing influence from rap productions. As big as the basslines are on much of the tracks in this mix, it's apparent that a lot of these songs are not built with the club in mind. With producers as young as 14 in this mix, it's pretty easy to see why that would be the case given many of them have never stepped foot inside a nightclub. 
In 2015 it's easier to get hold of a copy of FL Studio or Ableton than it is to get your hands on a set of CDJ's, so not only are many of these tracks not built for the club, many of them are not built with the DJ in mind either. Intros with odd numbers of beats, and even intros with filter rises all the way to the drop are not uncommon. But as awkward as it can be to physically mix these tracks without the aid of pre planned ableton sessions or some form of bpm locking, it is a sound that cries out to be recognised on a global scale, away from the comfort of Soundcloud, and therefore has really grabbed my attention in the past 18 months. 
I put this mix together to highlight some of the amazing talents and tracks that I've managed to pick up mostly on Soundcloud or on Bandcamp. This is a truly independent movement far removed from the mainstream music moguls. It is music built in the purest of senses. I present this mix to you in hope of opening your ears to some of the most exciting producers I've come across sprawling Soundcloud on the hunt for raw talent. 
Salute to all of the producers, label heads, channels and the listeners on this one. MalLabel Music has some of the freshest new Hybrid Glitch out there this week, kickin' it off in 2016 with the debut album from Nashville's, Ives.
