Goodbye

Been working on this for a few months. Probably way too many months now I think about it. I actually spend the last 2 months tweaking the overall sound and master channel. And even still it's not perfect! 

 I heard Ellie Goulding's cover of "Hanging On" by Active Child, and had to check out the original. I like the vocals in both versions, and wondered what they would sound like with a reece and a burial-style beat of some kind. First off, I spent a short while sulking about the fact that there are so few instrumental or vocal-only tracks out there. Once I got over it, I decided to EQ away the stuff I didn't want while attempting to keep the vocals. The result meant that the original Active Child track inevitably served as a major backbone for whatever else i did, despite subtracting a lot of bass and mid frequencies.

I then overlayed Ellie's vocals on top. Honestly this came out pretty messy and I like to think I did the best I could, but I'm still working out the ins and outs of proper mixing. Nevertheless, if you're curious you should check out the original tracks I took advantage of. A lot of credit here goes to Burial too, of course, for coming up with the coolest sounding drum-work for me to split and sample...
