Earlier this year, Atlanta’s Dog Bite found themselves with downtime in Los Angeles between a successful tour with labelmates Toro Y Moi and shows at SXSW in Austin. The four-piece that makes up the touring group started messing around with different sounds and came up with their first full-band release, the LA EP. This document of the road-tested crew is a stunning sequel to Velvet Changes, the band’s debut LP, which showcased the talents of singer-songwriter Phil Jones and bassist Woody Shortridge.

The LA EP begins with “Warm, Wake Up,” a song that captures the bliss of a sunny day in the palm tree-dotted landscape and the romantic intrigue of Hollywood’s studio lots. Motoring back down that winding road, we hear “Hunting Seasons" where mid-20th century boogie haunts the track’s guitars as the reverberating beat floats us back up to the clouds.

A feeling of melancholia drifts throughout the EP’s songs. But the saddest part about this collection is its 13-minute length. It flies by like a short vacation or a cool breeze. But much more than sorrow for its passing, the LA EP inspires excitement for the next gust of wind.

Second single from Sleepywolf's debut self titled album.

Sleepy Wolf are a New Zealand-based indie folk duo featuring Karin Bettley on vocals and Sam Benge on guitar and backing vocals. On their debut self-titled album, Karin’s haunting songs and rich, soulful voice combine with Sam’s exquisite guitar playing and tasteful musical arrangements to produce something quite special.

The core of the album was recorded in just one day with the main vocal and guitar takes done live in one take as if they were playing in the living room like they have always done. Very little editing was done with all the added layers done in uninterrupted takes. Sam then played around with adding extra guitar layers including electric slide guitar, electric lead guitar, keyboards and backing vocals. Sam Prebble aka Bond Street Bridge was brought into to add violin on the tracks which has brought an extra dimension to the songs.

The latest edit ‘Gecko (Overdrive)’, written and vocalled by Becky Hill during a late night recording session with MNEK, is being released by Parlophone’s vital new dance imprint FFRR. Initially written for another vocalist, Becky’s towering vocal on Gecko’s chorus was deemed the perfect fit and has already been coined the ‘Hottest Record in the World’ by Zane Lowe.

Following the release of their debut collaborative EP, Chasing Honeybees, in February, UK producer Stumbleine (aka Peter Cooper) and vocalist/songwriter Violet Skies deliver their first full-length album, Dissolver.

In it, the duo continues to explore the fusion of Stumbleine’s electronic beats and dreamy, shoegaze guitars with Violet Skies’ soulful pop / R’NB vocals.

From the slow-burning soul of opener Thunderdome through the catchy melodic pop of Sunset Boulevard and Heroine, the propulsive R’NB of Her Touch and Whirlpool and the swirling shoegaze-infused balladry of One Step Closer and Sleeping Through The Day, Dissolver delivers a welcome progression to the pop genre that seamlessly blends classic pop sensibilities with modern R’NB, contemporary electronica and 80’s shoegaze indie.

The music still retains the trademark lush production that Stumbleine is noted for, with strong melody lines and compelling lyrics penned by Violet Skies.

With Violet now involved in the songwriting, Peter affirms that she’s given Stumbleine a face and stamped his music with her personality. “She makes the music stand out and has opened the door to a wider audience,” he says, “I’ve pushed myself much harder over the past year to create something a bit different”,

With Dissolver, Peter has added Violet’s vitality to the dreamy essence of Stumbleine and the results are breathtaking.

Violet Skies has recently launched her own solo career, with the recent debut of her first track “How The Mighty”.

Dissolver is available on CD and digital download formats from all good retailers and also as a 180 gm vinyl LP pressing of 500 (300 white vinyl, 200 black vinyl) which includes a free poster and an album CD in a printed card wallet inside.
