Phobos serait alors la cristallisation de toutes les peurs qui ne pouvait manquer d'assaillir une société tout particulièrement structuré par des conduites de type archaïque. 
Phobos dans son sanctuaire serait la projection d'un processus psychique générateur d'angoisse, un mécanisme de défense divinisé dans sa dimension sécuritaire, reproduisant ainsi au niveau collectif, un processus bien analysé au niveau individuel.
Concrétisation d'une angoisse primitive aggravé par la peur religieuse d'une pollution contagieuse.
