Josh Teed is a versatile, classically trained, and technical musician. He picked up the violin at the tender age of 3 years old, going on to win the Florida Fiddle Championship at 9. Upon discovering electronic music, he began exploring his talents further and intertwining them with his newfound interest. His productions pay tribute to some of his electronic influences such as Charlesthefirst, CloZee and Govinda while still remaining unique and properly showcasing his vast expertise in instrumentalism. His live sets incorporate violin, didgeridoo, and live analog synthesis overlaid on top of every element of a great DJ set, keeping listeners engaged and entranced for every second he has the stage. In June of 2020 Josh launched the Taiga Collective, a nonprofit label centered around melodic and world bass music. Taiga Collective provides an avenue for talented, like minded musicians to release their music with all profits going to wildlife conservation. Although a lot has changed, Josh still keeps the same vision he started out with. Josh Teed aims to push the envelope and break the seams between bass music and live instrumentation, blending the two effortlessly to take listeners on a tangible, palpable journey through an eclectic variety of soundscapes and grooves. His EP The Journey East is an intricate look into his experimental collaborations between a multitude of other producers including MORiLLO, Bastion and more. 

“Silk Road” traverses rhythmic environments with its worldly and organic elegance with the help of Lil Fish. Josh Teed pairs up with MORiLLO and Brad Hester with “Crescent Bounce”, an exploration through sound with the tracks genre-bending deep dub soundscapes featuring in-your-face lyricism and flowing instrumentals. “Vibration” comes onto the album with an experimental flair, bathed in bouncy and slicing bass. Josh Teed recruits Skysia for “Introspection”, inhabiting an intricate and emotive spirit with a touch of meditative calm. “Steady Steppin” invites Bastion onto the EP with its adventurous, island expression; immersed in steel drums and celebratory euphoria. Lowcation joins for “Circle of Life'', employing a spiritual escape with an adventurous finesse that basks in rhythmic bass and collaborative prosperity. “Alive” closes the EP with dreamy and melodic vibrations with concluding collaborator, just john. Emotive vocal swells add a layer of diverse musical territories, entrancing the listener to the very end.

The genre bending, sub rattling, west coast bass slinging Chillage Records is back at it again with it’s 5th Installment of the Crunksauce compilation series. The Northern California based collective has been a fixture in the west coast bass music scene for more than half a decade bringing us delicious bass infused glitch hop, future beats, dubstep, trap and everything in between.

For the first time Chillage Records held open submissions for the Crunksauce compilation, inviting up and coming and established producers to submit their songs for a chance at a spot on the compilation, resulting in 19 tracks of bass heavy goodness from core Chillage members and many new faces adding their own flavor and style to the mix. Chillage Records will be releasing 3 tracks from the compilation a week for the next month a half so do yourself a favor and tune in below for all the bass heavy deliciousness coming your way!

It's fitting that we cap our coverage of the compilation Neurons Vol. 1 from Elemental Minded Promotions (EMP) by premiering "Juice"  by DeeZ featuring Frequency Fodder. DeeZ, formerly known as Satori and going by Andy Widdecomb by day, mastered all 11 tracks on the compilation. Frequency Fodder, a friend of Andy's with mega modular synth capabilities, is a relative newcomer whose contributions to this track leave us looking for more of his work. 

"Juice" is led by a wonky piece of synthesis that sounds once like a psychedelic talkbox, and again like the shuffling of a metallic deck of cards. Distinct and mastered to crystal clarity, it offers a unique tingle for the ear. According to Andy, the pair recorded an hour of audio with Frequency Fodder's Eurorack modular synth rig, which Andy then chopped and arranged into the squelchy, maneuvering delight you hear in the track. 

Having worked with Elemental Minded Promotions for over three years, DeeZ is a pillar of the EMP family. Years ago, Andy struggled to juggle work, production and performing, a dilemma faced by countless musicians and not an easy one to remedy. It was at this time that Tyler Hettel, EMP founder, began managing DeeZ. "It was great timing and really helped me continue moving forward," Andy says. 

For over five years Andy has been practicing the art of mastering music. "I started doing it for two reasons," he says. "One, because I needed to put rough masters on tunes that weren't finished in order to play them live, and two, I wanted to have a better understanding of how it works." Putting a glossy veneer on complex bass frequencies is no small challenge, but it's one Andy has risen to. The practice also informed his production process. "When I first started, I would notice problems in the mixdowns of my tunes when compressing/limiting them. Now that I know these things cause issues when the tune is mastered, I try to keep these common problems in mind when producing."

For his part, Frequency Fodder is a self-described "Eurocrack fiend", alluding to his synthesizer setup and an apparent addiction to it. You can see and hear more of this rig through some absolutely jamming clips on Frequency Fodder's Instagram, linked below.

We can apparently expect more collaboration from these two in the future. This is great news, as after a few listens to their contribution on Neurons Vol. 1, it's clear whose got the juice at the moment.
