This idea was conceived back in early 2019, during that period of time where it was popular to just have "Megalovania" in your AU because UT:HH did it. I'd say it serves a purpose here, as it's an homage to Toadie's famous project "Sans Undertale: Barricaded." In their final battle, they embody Sans one last time.

Aftergore is a series of AUs taking place after Undertale's neutral endings, in which a new human enters in Frisk's wake.
Aftergore VII, the Dog ending, details a strange ending in which Toriel, Papyrus, Undyne, Mettaton, and Asgore were killed, but everyone else was left alone. Now a little white dog rules the Underground by doing little more than sleeping on the throne all day. Somehow, this is working out...really, really well for everyone? NOTHING IS OUT OF PLACE. DON'T WORRY ABOUT IT. EVERYTHING IS FINE. =)

Gaster shares the role of Sans with Alphys. The strange anomalies that brought this timeline into being have summoned him from beyond, and he is rather cross with the fact that no one seems bothered by what happened other than him. The rest of the Underground may be under some sort of spell of contentment over the deaths of some of their great leaders, but you can't pull the metaphorical wool over this doctor's eyes. He's onto you. He always is. He's always listening.
