Hi I'm Sal and welcome to my podcast The Hypnotic Hour. 

I've been immersed in music as far back as I can remember. Like 90's kids, I was fascinated by all the mainstream stars, then briefly into 90's Rap & Hip hop, then alternative Rock... Then Metallica!! By this time I was playing lead guitar! 

It wasn't until I was introduced a track by Airgap called Resolved that things changed drastically. I found myself deeply immersed into the Yoshitoshi and Hooj choon's progressive sounds. Spending countless hours trying to perfect the art of picking tracks and mixing seamlessly. 

I was a top 5 finalist for the Ministry of Sound DJ competition which was in conjunction with Atomix which is now renamed as Virtual DJ. I then went on to be 1st runner up in the very first ever Juice presents DJ Quest ( In search of Malaysia's best DJ) back when I lived in Malaysia K.L for 6 years. 

These days I try and make recordings for my podcast, I would like to make them more frequently but having a full time career makes it rather difficult. When I do make a mix you can rest assure that plenty of time, care and preparation has gone into the mix as a good story should be unforgettable.

I've been playing music casually for more than 20 years, dabbling in classical guitar, hand drums, bamboo flute, ocarina, didgeridoo, and now drum sets.

Nowadays, my primary focus is with learning the drums. A year+ of daily practice and study of all genres has really helped me to begin to narrow down my style and sound. A jazz kit with plenty of distinctive character and some extra percussion is where it's at. Jazz, Funk, Rock, World, Experimental.

I record the band I'm in, hihi, using Cubase and Logic. We're a studio jam band, brainstorming ambient soundscapes. We always record live in the moment, for reference and posterity. I hope to branch out and help other bands record themselves at some point.
