What would you like ppl to know about you?

I'm also an exhibiting visual artist! Whose art practice is deeply intertwined with their DJ practice.

Tell us about this mix and what you want listeners to get from it.

Whenever I put out a mix or get ready to make a mix, I organize a collection of images that help me develop its sonic aesthetic. With this mix I was more so thinking about it as an archipelago, a group of islands that amalgamate to a larger nexus of localities. With that in mind, the majority of the songs I selected have these really entrancing percussive patterns that I gravitate to at large, but also placing emphasis on Caribbean, African and Black American producers. It was easy to find my footings as those connections seem to form organically. This mix is definitely more on the techno side, with many moments of melodic rapture. But overall, I want listeners to sojourn through a transformative journey that explores the entanglement of terror and enjoyment, ecstasy and remedy, death and transformation. A group of islands converging, collapsing and developing one another in their difference. A dancefloor of relation, with explosions of jubilance <3

When did you first take an interest in music?

I think my interest in music or specifically dance music began with Dance Dance Revolution and video games in general. I remember growing up playing dance dance revolution with my cousin and siblings, we even had a metal mat at home- that's how serious we were about it. I'm not the best at it, but I think that definitely began my interest in electronic dance music. My cousin, the one who actually owned the game, took me to my first rave when I was 12 or 13. And obviously being exposed to that at such an impressionable age, I took to that quite quickly Then later on moving to Chicago, and finding home and family in the community there that had already been so invested in a long-standing nightlife tradition - its exalted a profound respect and devotion to House and Techno at large. I've had the most cathartic, healing, and transformative experiences on the dancefloor, and truly believe these spaces are so incredibly spiritual. 

What have been some of your fav gigs and what made them so memorable?

My favorite gig would have to be Honcho Summer 2021. We were all so invested...the whole excursion is this sort of agreement, that I think only a weekend in the middle of the woods with no access to the internet can conjure. Like my eyes still roll back thinking about my experience there, there's something really magical about that experience that I'm still unraveling. Aside from being showered with love and appreciation after my set, and honestly one of the few times where I have felt truly celebrated and held. I was committed, I remember there were times we would be on the dancefloors for hours, going and losing ourselves, everyone began to become nobody and everyone all at once, in the blur of it all. I will never forget my time there. 

How do you think we can make the underground clubbing community better?

I would like to see more thoughtful organizing, a lot of parties post-quarantine have been so maximalist and devoid of intention. We don't need 10 DJs in one night (unless there are multiple floors), we don't need a sampler portion of a DJ set. With the recent destruction of our spaces specifically in Brooklyn, we have fewer options, there's 'scarcity' to it. But there is so much room for potential! I want to see more insurgent, spontaneous, and imaginative organizing

The DJ and production alias of Daria Lourd, Bored Lord is boundlessly creative and this shows in her unstoppable output. Unique and possibly best known in recent times for her stylistic edits, although her talents and musical knowledge extend far beyond this. 

Pulling together often opposing genres, the highlights of 90's pop anthems marry seamlessly with raucous rave sensibilities in the hands of Daria. No Doubt's 'Don't Speak' becomes a dubbed-up breakbeat bop, Mariah's 'We Belong Together' now a pacey, organ-lead injection of euphoria.

Music is a clear art-form for Daria. A direct reflection of her lived experience as a trans-woman in America. Her rapid release schedule is only one representation of the fight that exists within her and her peers daily. Her music brings with it togetherness, nullifying differences that 'societal norms' attempt to perceive. She's one of the most exciting artists of our time and now she's on the Hyp mix.
