Freerange welcomes Italian producer/DJ/label boss Enzo Elia for his debut on the label entitled The Lost Guitar Tapes.  Enzo is someone who has been releasing consistently great music for many years, although often hidden behind a myriad of pseudonyms and underground imprints. For starters he’s responsible for a mysterious yet established and very excellent edits label as well as being a member of Balearic Gabba Sound System alongside Bjorn Torske amongst others.  Following the philosophy of this collective, Enzo is also producing lovingly and respectfully created re-edits of long lost techno and house tracks as well as many new tunes for influential labels including Golf Channel and Compost.

But for now we turn to The Lost Guitar Tapes and specifically the original mix of Drifting which opens up the release with a brilliant tension builder.  A rolling bassline, crisp minimal drums and a subtly Middle Eastern-influenced melodic line give just a hint of mysticism to this jewel of a track.

For the remix we have none other than the Tel Aviv via Berlin producer
Moscoman, fresh from his brilliant debut LP on ESP Institute and releases on Eskimo and his own Disco Halal label.  Moscoman’s organic, percussion-heavy sound and Middle Eastern roots make him the perfect choice to take on Drifting and we couldn’t have wished for a better outcome.  He manages to inject his own identity to the track with newly recorded live guitar and bass parts and taking in elements of techno, new wave and house, he’s created a sublime piece of dancefloor drama.

Finally we have an alternate Dub version which lays down a firmer four on the floor, extra percussion and dubby stabs for a more driving atmospheric club tool.

Kicking off Poker Flat's 20th anniversary series of remixes, Tim Engelhardt (@timengelhardt) drops two sublime re-interpretations of Berkson & What's classic cut Keep On featuring vocals from the legendary Robert Owens.

With a back catalogue that spans over more than 300 releases it's no surprise that many Poker Flat tracks have remained club and DJ staples to this day, so to celebrate the anniversary the label hand picked a number of key records for a remix 
treatment.

Here, Tim Englehardt launches the series in typically exemplary fashion with two intricate, emotionally-charged and utterly compelling remixes.

As one of Cologne’s youngest and brightest electronic music stars, Tim has become a key player in the Poker Flat family over the last few years, releasing a slew of incredible singles and EPs, not to mention his debut album 'Moments Of Truth' in 2017. Since then he has grown in stature to become one of the most respected producers on the circuit.

His first remix is a slow-burning, broken beat re-imagining, with gently undulating synths, dramatic chords and ethereal pads providing a hypnotic base over which Owens vocal works its magic.

With his other remix, Engelhardt retains many of the elements of the former version but this time employs a more traditional 4/4 structure, adding a slow-burning tension with dramatic pads, dreamy synth stabs and glistening keys.

Exclusive Braunbeck 'De Trum'

As a constant contributor to Sol Eterno, Fabian Braunbeck usually does not leave his home port to release his music, unless it's a family affair. Hence he did not have to think twice to deliver three original tracks for his Berlin affiliates, namely for Watergate. But Fabian's debut EP on the label, 'Samsa', does not soley come with original tracks but also with a remix from Jonathan Kaspar for title track, with both versions featuring vocals from Eluize. Aside from the latter named tunes Fabian's EP contains two more original versions, 'Blocklife' respectively 'De Trum', as the percussive approach of 'De Trum' hits close to the artist's heart and is a personal favorite as Braunbeck revealed in chat some time ago. 'De Trum' basically is a non-ceasing rhytmical loop and thus probably not only comes close to the artist's idea, what and how (electronic) music should sound like, but also convinces regular club-goers – as the recurring yet changing percussions make one fall into trance and remind vigilant listeners of the track's ritual nature. The partly yet rarely implemented chord as well as sizzling sounds intensify the aforementioned listening experience but also dissolve the 'tooly-character' causing 'De Trum' to make waves on the (water) dance floor and everywhere else.

Fabian's EP 'Samsa' will be released on Watergate Records on November 29th, 2019.
