The latest release from Tash's Movement Recordings finds the label presenting a new installment of its 'Technical Progress' series. Conceptualized in 2010 these various artist showcases have grown into one of the underground's most critically acclaimed series, continually featuring some of electronic music's most talented newcomers. With the twelfth edition of the series landing in May of last year with resounding success, Movement Recordings now presents the much-anticipated thirteenth installment featuring exclusive material from (in order of appearance): Bobby Deep Kylian Lake, Rocio Portillo, Valley (AR), Karim Sar Sar, Lateral Shift, Notoir, Nas Horizon and George Harbas, Blac J and Wielki and Globaldancr.

The release begins with Bobby Deep returning to the label for the first time in over six years with his latest studio creation 'Crow'. Known for his timeless style, the Greek artist crafts a profound mood setting piece with dark stabs, groovy basslines, shuffling percussion, and a soulful vocal which ultimately drives a strong emotional narrative throughout. Making his label debut with the second selection is Brazilian artist Kylian Lake. Known for finding a cohesive balance between progressive and melodic house and techno, Kylian's 'Light Side' leans towards the former with it's emotive synth phrasing and chunky, progressive minded grooves. Moving forward, selection three welcomes Rocio Portillo, Valley (AR) and Karim Sar Sar to the label with 'Dark Passenger'. Hailing from Argentina, this trio of rising artists made a memorable impression with their first collaborative effort in 2022 via 3rd Avenue. Continuing to build on that creative synergy with 'Dark Passenger', the trio crafts a spacious progressive builder which eventually reveals strong rhythmic qualities, haunting vocals and a tough yet groovy finale. Fresh off releases for onedotsixtwo and Spring Tube is Lateral Shift who makes his label debut with 'Landslide'. The Australian artist brings a smooth effortless approach to his brand of progressive music, as evidenced by the textural qualities, emerging atmospheres and astral sonics of 'Landslide'.

The latest release on Tash's Movement Recordings finds the label showcasing the sixth installment of its 'GLBLMVMT' series. These region-specific compilations were first unveiled in 2018 with Federico Monachesi curating the progressive hotbed of Argentina. Moving forward, the label has unveiled a new edition each year, with Cyprus, India, France and Sri Lanka being the chosen destinations, expertly curated by Paul and Don, Aaryan, Wielki and Kyotto across the next four years. Now unveiling the sixth and much anticipated edition, Movement calls upon NuFects to curate the talent-rich region of Colombia with exclusive music from (in order of appearance): Gux Jimenez, Arbey Gonzalez, Leo Guerrero, NuFects, Suntech and Jhonny LP, Armandhe and Cut Knob. Getting the release underway is Gux Jimenez who has been a fixture of his country's electronic music movement for over a decade. Best known for his emotive take on the progressive genre, the Cartagena resident has showcased his music via trendsetting landing spots such as Clubsonica, Juicebox, Mango Alley, Proton's Particles, UV and his own OzLand imprint, while earning support from world class DJs Above and Beyond and Armin Van Buuren. Now, adding Movement Recordings to his resume, Gux debuts on the label with the emotive sounds of 'Follow Me'. Hailing from Cali, Arbey Gonzalez first emerged just two years ago on the strength of releases via Balkan Connection, Deepwibe Underground, Nature Rec., Soundteller Records, The Purr and more. The fast rising phenom would quickly establish himself amongst Colombia's strong progressive scene and become a sought after remixer as a result. Also finding a home on Movement earlier this year with 'Rocking Stereo', a well received collaboration with fellow countryman Paul Lennar, Arbey now makes a return to the label with the deep organic sounds of 'Frana'. Selection three finds Leo Guerrero making his label debut with 'Bashmet'. The Medellin resident is perhaps best known for being one half of the trance duo Smokers Area, a project which ran for the better part of decade, before eventually disbanding in 2018. New inspirations led Leo to progressive music where he restarted his production journey under his own name, while finding a home on Clubsonica, Sprout, Strangers Beats and more. Continuing on this explorative path, the Medellin resident now adds Movement Recordings to his portfolio with the groovy sounds of 'Bashmet'. Collection curators NuFects are next with 'Fractals' which lands in the fourth spot. Conceptualized in 2013, Colombian artists Alejo Cortes and Carlos Lopez aka NuFects decided to undertake a project full of energy, joy, colour and intrigue. They started producing progressive and organic house under the name NuFects (short for The New Effect), quickly earning recognition from Hernan Cattaneo, Nick Warren and Cid Inc, along with very important local talents Dabeat, Gux Jimenez and Kamilo Sanclemente, while legends like Paul Oakenfold and Solarstone playlisted their music. Having closed out 2022 with their Movement Recordings vehicle 'Demons and Slayers', Nufects makes a welcome return to the label with the electric sounds of 'Fractals'.

Transensations hits the heart of the summer season with a new EP from rising talent Ed Lopes. Hailing from Sao Paulo, Brazilian artist Ed Lopes has been emerging from his country’s progressive house landscape since first appearing in 2020. With a sound that incorporates the traditional vibe of progressive house and the modern sensibility of melodic house and techno, Ed has landed key projects for leading local labels. 2022 would see Ed make his Transensations debut with ‘Quantum Walk’, a track which would highlight the label’s popular ‘Transenses’ IV collection. Now, returning for his first EP project, Ed lands back on the Brazilian powerhouse with ‘Rise’, alongside remixes from Pedräda and Danilo Ercole.

Title track ‘Rise’ finds Ed collaborating with Kachas and Electric Dreams (BR) for the ultimate peak time bomb. The trio work striking synths and panoramic arps over a tough kick drums and pulsating grooves for a supreme dose of energy. The electric nature of track is not without emotion however, as the main break presents a bed of balmy key changes and soulful phrasing which perfectly spearhead a trilling finale. The remaining two originals find Ed operating in solo capacity, beginning with the chugging sounds of ‘Doppler Effect’. A slight drop in tempo creates a greater sense of space compared to ‘Rise’, while a boisterous set of chord stabs and melodic moments complements the galloping grooves and trance-inspired motifs perfectly. Meanwhile, ‘Arppegios’ maintains that same peak time energy but with a greater hypnotic disposition. Aptly titled, it’s an array of bending arps which set the course for symphonic synths to blaze a trail into the main break. Perhaps one of the EP’s most grandiose moments, the interlude captivates from start to finish, tactfully building tension and emotion in unison as the thunderous kick drum drop for a thumping conclusion.

Presenting the lone interpretation of ‘Rise’ is Transensations label A&R Pedrada who comes off impressive remixes for Hiato Music and Prototype Music. The Sao Paulo resident always proves to be a creative remixer and continues to live up to that billing here. While keeping the torrid pace of the Original mix, Pedrada utilizes the trance oriented motifs in a more spacious and less pronounced fashion, replying more on rhythm, groove and timely effects to generate energy and pulse, while a healthy dose of emotion should create and oversized dancefloor response.

The release concludes with Danilo Ercole returning to the label following releases for Addictive Sounds and Flashover Recordings. With well over a decades worth of production experience, the Curitiba resident often finds a nice balance between between progressive house and trance, as evidenced by some of his biggest supporters in Ferry Corsten and Markus Schulz. Danilo manages to find that balance again here with a powerful take on ‘Doppler Effect’, a version which not only translates the Originals message very well, but adds a fuller more muscular feel which complements the nostalgic trance-inducing themes, ultimately capping the release off in style. Highly recommended.

Cary Crank has been on fire in recent years, with a constant stream of high quality output on renowned labels such as Parquet, Freegrant, Beatfreak, Perspectives and countless others. This time we see him making his first appearance on Manual Music's MNL subsidiary with his latest single 'Move Quickly'.

On remix duties it's Leandro Murua who delivered one of the biggest progressive house tracks of 2023 with 'Lunar Object' and is definitely one of the names to watch currently.
