TRIBAL 2025 arrives as both a tribute and a reinvention of Mexican tribal—a genre that, since the early 2000s, has collided coastal percussion, pre-Hispanic rhythms, and regional sounds with global electronic music. From Monterrey and the State of Mexico to Guerrero-Oaxaca’s Costa Chica, tribal has left its mark on dance floors and shaped the cultural identity of a generation of Mexican and Latin American producers.

Over a decade after NAAFI helped put this sound on the map, TRIBAL 2025 offers a fresh take. This isn’t nostalgia. It’s the raw power of tribal—its driving rhythms, communal pulse, and deep-rooted cultural ties—pushed into conversation with experimental strands of contemporary music and new ways of thinking about the club.

The compilation gathers a new wave of producers exploring tribal from every angle: Clap Freckles, El Chico Callado, Dj Fucci, DNZA, Underwght, Dj Weed, HMR, Lao, Entrañas, El Irreal Veintiuno, Debit, Siete Catorce, Homie Luna, Ezya, Cler, Sandunga, Syztema, OZOMATECUHTLI, Ruido Con H, WTTLC, and Zutzut. Each track bends the genre, expands its edges, and asks: what can tribal mean today?

More than a tribute, TRIBAL 2025 is a declaration: tribal remains a space for experimentation, identity, and the global reach of Mexican electronic music.

Agua de Rosas founder, J. Córdova, and Please team up to debut their collaborative project, Saibamen, along with Ecuadorian club producer, Entrañas. The project explores Chicago genres, such as juke and footwork, while delving into the realm of club music, rooted in the sounds of Latinx and UK sound cultures. The project also features footwork legend DJ Manny on the track, "4 Cooks."

Merca Bae Presents: Down Theory, the second instalment in the label’s artist-led curation series, arriving 13th November. Curated by Merca Bae, the compilation delves into the landscape of Downtempo Bass music, intertwining between Dancehall, Tarraxo, Breaks, and Reggaeton.

Through this release, Merca Bae spotlights the wide scope of Downtempo music and its continued presence across global underground scenes. Over the past few years, club music has trended toward higher BPMs and relentless, fast-paced energy, but Down Theory offers a space to explore slower, weightier & sexier rhythms as a way to embrace slower, bass-driven music in a club environment.

The project features contributions from Chá Di Lirian, Grindalf, and Entrañas, alongside established producers styn and Faraonika, and introduces Unayo and Tempo Fino, who debut their first productions under new aliases.

Down Theory offers a cohesive yet wide-ranging snapshot of contemporary low-end experimentation.

☛ DJ Babatr — founding figure of the Raptor House movement and a true pioneer of Venezuela’s electronic scene. From the streets of Caracas to dancefloors worldwide, his raw and vibrant sound blends tribal percussion, urban energy, and futuristic electronic pulses. Paris-based collective and label Couvre x Chefs had the honor of hosting him for his first club show in France in October 2023 at Petit Bain. This defining moment marked the beginning of a lasting connection between the producer and our label.

☛ Two years later, this relationship comes full circle with the release of Pedro Le Dino (Bandcamp), an explosive and organic EP, due late 2025 on Couvre x Chefs. With this new project, DJ Babatr continues to push the boundaries of his sound, weaving techno and trance influences into the relentless rhythmic intensity that defines Raptor House, asserting more than ever his unique vision of contemporary electronic music.
