Solid Steel (11th October) It's another warm up for the Solid Steel 25th Anniversary show at Motion in Bristol tonight. DK rounds up some of his favourite tracks from  Daphni, Bonobo, Four Tet and Martyn, but we start with another spin for 'Chocolate orange' by Fulgeance. Then it's a nod to old skool hip hop from Rasheed Chappell and a nod to old skool rave from Mark Pritchard, Don Froth and the huge Special Request remix of Tessela's 'Hackney Parrot'. All this and some classic  Solid Steel tracks from Most Wanted, Meat Beat Manifesto, Timbaland, Missy Elliott and ending with the sublime 'Truth and Rights' by Johnny Osbourne.

Solid Steel (7th February) In Hour 1 we welcome The Gaslamp Killer to start off the show. It's a mix of some of GLK's favourite current alternative groups specialising in the dark psychedelic side of rock and the harder edged beat music that he loves so much. Plus a couple of world psych classics in the middle, from fast to slow around we go, always a narrative journey with GLK.
DK continues with the beautiful collaboration between Debruit & Alsarah and onto the new Mount Kimbie remix for Kelis on Ninja Tune and the current single by Falty DL. Then it's a track from the Actress album Ghettoville and into the dub mix of classic 80's Boogie from Barbara Fowler, before ending with Cottam and Instra:mental from the last few years.

Future Shock was a 2hr mix that DJ Food cooked up for an online 'pirate' radio station a couple of friends set up earlier this year called Altar Ego Radio. Billed as 'Music from the Future you remember from your Past', he mixed sci-fi electronica with a retro feel from Jokers of the Scene, Falty DL. The Books, Sculpture, Nico Motte and Jeremy Schmidt. Here's the first hour, exclusively sans the chat of the original broadcast which was hosted like a regular radio show. Much like his recent Magpie Music mix of a few weeks ago he intends to expand on these themes in forthcoming Future Shock mixes focussing on the more electronic side of his current tastes. Mo Wax, Please

Back in the late 90's we were touring in N. America and Japan a lot and mixtapes were a small, cheap piece of merchandise to sell at shows so I put this collection together. Using scraps of turntable jams from Stealth, Solid Steel and various other gigs we'd been recording over the preceding years as well as answerphone messages and other miscellanea, this ramshackle collection resulted.
It's all live, virtually all improvised, there are mistakes, needle skips, sloppy scratches and bad sound quality (sound sources were from cassette or portable DAT generally). There were possibly around 500 copies made but I only had one myself. The audio for this rip was taken from the master DAT though and EQ'd and balanced in places to make it a nicer listen. The cover image of a John Coltrane painting was taken in Tortoise's kitchen in Chicago, one Sunday on a day off when PC and I were there with Bundy K Brown, hence the title.

"Switchstance" is taken from the culture of boardsports, meaning the skill used to change the stance (easily) by switching one's foot position. The stance in freestyle Snowboarding or Skateboarding, is either riding in "regular" (left foot forward) or "goofy" (right foot forward) position. This identifies a really skilled rider and opens up a whole new world of trick combinations.

The label's creed and therefore the style of its producers and DJs is to have ultimate freedom, whether in their musical movements or in "switching" between various styles.
