@dj-koolt has been pivotal to the rise of his native Uruguayan scene ever since he started spinning in the 90s. Rooted in Montevideo, he made it one of the most exciting places to hear minimalist dance music. Its spiritual home is Phonotheque, the club he co-founded a decade ago and where he lays down his forward-thinking sounds to a devoted and hardcore fan base. 

The scene Godfather goes big for us this week with a two-hour deep dive into his sound. It perfectly showcases his silky transitions and ability to tell stories on the dance floor. Acid, breaks and techno are the foundational sounds but they are embellished in signature style with plenty of spaced-out designs, a sense of gritty industrial futurism and plenty of avant-garde electronics.

Montevideo-born, Barcelona-based Maximiliano Arrieri, also known as Fatal, is part of the Canela en Surco label alongside Breixo Martinez and Plácido Rosas collective with Melina Serser.

As a selector, he stands out for his unique ability to uncover forgotten or under-the-radar records. 

This distinctive approach has set him apart without confining him to any specific genre when searching for and spinning tracks.

With over 10 years of experience and a keen ear developed from a young age, Fatal has forged an eclectic and distinctive style that has established him as a standout talent in the scene.

Proto-house, New Beat, Techno, and unconventional '80s and '90s electronic music form the backbone of his record collection for the night. However, his unique approach to digging up forgotten or rare records has set him apart without confining him to any specific genre.

Olive brings a sound that’s hard to pin down, in the best way. A seamless blend of stripped tech/progressive/breaks, always with an uplifting (often ethereal) touch, and dancefloor-driven energy that keeps things moving and the mind open.

The mix kicks off with luscious sun-infused chords followed by a personal fave from Spacer IV (recently repressed on Slush) and only builds from there… one for the explorative ear. "The warm-up slot has always been a setting that feels natural to me.
I have been a resident at Phonotheque since my years living in Uruguay up until 2017 (and I still proudly hold that residency today). Back then, playing on rotation across all time slots gave me the chance to experiment and grow as an artist. Later, in 2019, after moving to Europe, I also became a resident at Cartulis, and this ongoing rotation of slots has continued to this day in both residencies.

Playing at a club like Fold is both a luxury and a rare comfort, something that makes everything flow more easily and enjoyably.
This set is a memory of a very special night, recorded on January 28th, 2023. I opened the night, followed by Radioactive Man, Nicolas Lutz, Unai Trotti, Vass, and Walrus." Z@p
