Inspirée par la plante éponyme qui soigne les maux hivernaux, pour Propolys, la techno peut adoucir les âmes, et même les transporter. Toujours en quête de l'émotion juste et de la vibration, elle butine inlassablement à Paris et à Berlin et s'investit aussi désormais dans la programmation du festival Château Perché.
Ses principales inspirations parlent d'elles-mêmes : Benales, Inox Traxx,  O Phase, Kaiser, Muzmin, Stojche, Phara, Fadi Mohem, Robert Hood,  Decoder… (s'il ne fallait en citer que quelques-uns !).
Pour ce podcast sans flirt avec la rapidité, elle a sélectionné des tracks charnues pour donner un corps consistant à ce set deep, raw et percussif évoluant en deux parties, comme partant d'un élan enjoué et puissant… pour ramper vers des sonorités plus sombres et lancinantes.

Inspired by the eponymous plant that cures winter ailments, Propolys believes that techno can soften souls, and even transport them. Always on the lookout for the right emotion and vibe, she tirelessly forages in Paris and Berlin, and is now also involved in programming the Château Perché festival.

I first met Antoni last year when he invited me down to Planet Wax for one of his instalments of 'Antek Invites', a regular event he hosts at the shop showcasing the breadth and depth of his taste alongside friends and other DJs who he knows will match the vibe. 

A true gent with a genuine passion for music, Antek's been part of the Planet Wax crew for ~18 months with regular appearances and events at the shop, alongside other gigs around South London, as well as radio appearances on Subtle, Aaja, Kool FM, Balamii, and Netil to name a few. 

He even played the Steel City of Sheffield recently at the newly established Gut Level, a queer community DIY space in the heart of the city centre.

Hope you enjoy the variety of sounds he's put together for us in this mix :)

On our 1st episode we are truly honored to have a stalwart artist   behind South Korea’s underground music scene to kick off the series. 
 
The Seoul based producer / dj Closet Yi  has gained  tremendous respect and following for her versatile, yet edgy productions and fresh sounding  mixes, constantly pushing the boundaries of Asia’s electronic music landscape 

With a two-year stint as resident DJ and librarian at the Hyundai Card Music Library under her belt, Closet Yi’s musical influences go far beyond just dance music. 

She’s previously released on UK labels Hotflush Recordings, Curving Tracks, and No Bad Days, as well as the Asia-based tastemaker labels Silkroad Sounds and Honey Badger Records. 

She’s honed her craft at some of the most respected clubs and festivals, DJing for Lost Village Festival, Village Underground, Corsica Studios, Minh Hongkong, and Circus Tokyo. She’s even been featured on Resident Advisor’s Mix of The Day and has crafted mixes for Crack Magazine, Circo Loco, and DJ Mag’s Fresh Kicks series. 

Successfully nailing her Boiler Room debut along with Anz, Mogwaa, and DJ Sharda, she wrapped up 2022 with Apple Music’s NYE 2023 DJ Mix as one of the 23 artists worldwide. 

Nominated as one of Beatport’s recommended artists to watch, 
Closet Yi will be touring India and various parts of Asia and Europe in the coming months with on top of her forthcoming releases, featured in her mix

“For the Bassis mix, I put together some tracks that I’m archiving as a reference for my upcoming production projects. These days, I’m more into finding pieces that inspire my studio work rather than just my DJ sets. It’s not that different in the end, but I think I’m more into drum textures and more constructive patterns,” she shares.

Damo B and Brent Aquasky’s Amentec label is a crossing point between the worlds of electro, hardcore and IDM. On their second ‘Off Ya Box’ compilation, 808 bass booms collide with rugged breakbeats and mystic synth lines do battle with amped up rave stabs over 18 tracks from both celebrated artists and new school heroes. 

Electro heads Dawl, MOY, Inkipak, Bobo, Lloyd Stellar, Difool and BufoBufo all contribute fresh tracks and remixes, while hardcore and jungle legends including DJ Spatts from The Criminal Minds, Flatliner, Fugitive, Ova Doce and Diplomat & Beagle deliver the rugged and raw rhythms they’re renowned for. 

From the huge breaks and sulphuric acid lines of MOY’s remix of Fugitive’s ‘Too Strong’ to the bubbling analogue synths and chopped drums of Inkipak’s ‘Theraprise’, and from the energetic synth riffs and 4/4 kicks of Diplomat & Beagle’s ‘Thunderclap’ to the braindance melodies and garage skip of Bobo’s ‘Forever Kingdom’, Amentec joins the dots between genres and sounds, and shows how they interconnect.

A true legend of the scene, Gary has been influencing techno with his signature sound since his emergence in 2007. With a career shaped by dedication to his craft, he’s earned deep respect from peers and dancers alike - and has stayed true to his roots every step of the way. Known for his unmistakable sound and a catalog that includes releases on Soma, Mutual Rytm and his own label BEK Audio, his music carries weight, but always with a focus on groove and movement.

For this mix, Gary invites us into his creative world with a selection made up almost entirely of unreleased personal material (some of it might be landing sooner than you think - so keep those ears open!)👂. A raw, rolling journey that reflects how he approaches DJing: direct, honest, and flowing from start to finish. Recorded simply on an A&H Xone 92 and three CDJ2000 Nexus II, it’s less about dramatic peaks but more about sustained energy - staying in the zone and letting the rhythm speak.

This mix brings together garage, uk funky, breaks, house, electro, a little techno, dubstep and drum n bass into and hour and a half mix spanning 26 of the latest tracks, featuring artists like Orbital, Foamo and a lot of love going out this month to Aquasky whose recent Raise The Devil E.P. is definitely one to go out and buy if you haven't had the chance yet.

Hot on the heels my recent June mix, my July mix offer more of the usual goodness with Techno, garage, jungle, breaks, electronic and winding up with an awesome dubstep remix from my good friend DJ Q-Kraft. Its his first release so head over to his soundcloud and give his work some much deserved love. This has been an interesting mix to work on for me. Taking a harmonic mixing approach that mixes the key that tracks are recorded in for smooth transitions and some great harmonies between mixes. I think it went pretty well and I hope you enjoy listening. Comments, feedback of any kind as always very welcome.

In A Sweet Harmony

Hotflush presents a ten-track album of previously unheard music produced by Scuba during the early part of the five-year run of his legendary SUB:STANCE party at Berghain. From July 2008, SUB:STANCE opened the Berlin institution up to a new set of aesthetics, sparking a conversation between UK artists and Germany's most vibrant music centre. The party eventually spread further afield, with a residency in New York and showcases held around the world, before coming to a considered end with a final party at Berghain and Panorama Bar in July 2013, exactly five years after the first edition. On SUB:STANCE in Retrograde, Scuba cultivates the sonic aesthetic established in the UK in the incubative period of dubstep, whilst incorporating the fruits of an exploration of textures, drum patterns and acoustics. Consisting entirely of unreleased music which has spent almost a decade on undisturbed hard drives, SUB:STANCE in Retrograde reflects a period of growth for Scuba, documenting an exchange of ideas that continues to unfold to this day.
