As Roam Recordings approaches its 100th release, label boss Jason Peters returns with three originals for the 99th. The title track - Broken - is a heavy, mid tempo chugger lead by distorted guitars and analog synths for a dark and moody romp. Picking up the tempo is Time Division with its crossover of indie dance, dark disco, and techno heard through its driving arps and warped soundscapes over a pulsating rhythm. Rounding it out is Trifecta that again hops genres with a bit of italo and 90s rave in the mix. The EP is backed by two excellent remixers - Roam alumni and Indonesian electronic music maestro Jonathan Kusuma and South Korean rising star Shubostar. Up first is Shubostar who brings up the tempo of the title track with a breakbeat while keeping it dark and mysterious. Jonathan Kusuma takes on Trifecta and moves it into heady psychedelic electro territory with his bass mix.

One thing is evident, this is without a doubt a dance song, but let me point you
out one little thing. It has a pop vibe with some funk, soft rock and electronics involved. For those of you who still remember 2009 or 2010 hit pop songs, that's exactly what this is. This Mix is more or less free of misty and grudgy sounds, you can say that it brings some fresh air to already tainted inhabited .And that is just a fine change of pace. Not to mention a sexy female vocals accompanied by Bloodhound gangish male voice.

QX PREMIERE: H - Tócame (Original Mix)

Danish producer and DJ Jesper Mygind aka C.M. Art (@jespermygind ) marks a new chapter in his career this September with his debut album ‘Planet Uthboar’, inaugurating his new Uthboar imprint.

Uthboar is being launched to showcase another side of the club music coming out of Copenhagen where Mygind is based, more lo-fi, slower and a bit more experimental, with Planet Uthboar dropping as the first release.

Jesper tells us ‘’I’m very inspired by the whole cassette culture from the late 80’s where mainly experimental artists with a do-it-yourself approach recorded music in their living room and simply released it on tape to the cassette community. For me this shows that music doesn’t have to be that serious and ‘perfect’ all the time, and that you can record interesting music right out of your living room on crappy gear.’’

UTHBOAR : ‘’Planet Uthboar is a conceptual album that takes the listener on a journey to the fictive planet of Uthboar, where two heroes are on a quest to stop the supervillain Art from exterminating every living being on the planet. The album is inspired by old comics and 70’s sci-fi animation movies, so think of a kind of H.G. Wells dark sci-fi style mixed with lo-fi house and electro - all recorded straight to an old dusty cassette recorder!’’

We return to our Mixtapes section, where we are looking to expand our borders a bit. Today we have Buendía, a project by Daniel Buendía. It uses dark sounds as the predominant base and flirts with styles such as indie dance, Italo disco and dark disco. We summoned Daniel to our “Chula” club located in Puerto Escondido, Mexico. We like his presentation so much that we wanted his music to remain forever on our channel from today.

Quixotical Records (@quixoticalrecords) brings out the - H - and it's single "Tócame" including four different vibes remixes from Cali Burton, Chinosynth, Cubebass, and Poulper. Lovely journey from the sun and beautiful skies to the house of dark.

Cali Burton's (@caliburton) Remix is a different take on 'Tócame'. To some degree, this feels more like a dark tale of a bright and funky original. However, it maintains the substance and integrity but changes the formula. The track becomes more serious, despite a detuned and a bit comical intro. The arrangement is spot on, every single beat and every single sound has a place of it's own. The inclusion of a piano and electronic guitar gave this sense of fulfillment and progression, which we'd all agree are important. Not going so far from the path, but striding just far enough is the ideal middle ground for finding the right angle, it gives us a different perspective and it is very impressive and admirable when someone is able to see how the horizon can be altered to a certain point, but also remain the same in it's essence.

The cool Vilnius/Buenos Aires-based label, expertly curated by Aurum Miles and Poulper (SXDNS146/FREEDL028), Quixotical Records, opens its doors to H, a Mexican duo whose interesting multi-genre sonority consists in combining acoustic and electronic instruments in order to deliver a fresh take on Techno, French Touch, and Funk with the influence of Latin music elements. The single "Tócame", for instance, brings the duo flirting with their Deep & Soulful influences by delivering a smooth and sexy cut which was properly twisted and entangled by the competent team of talents invited to remix it: Cali Burton, Chinosynth (FREEDL021), Cubebass, and Poulper himself were not afraid to bring the title track to their own turfs and come up with extremely different interpretations of it.

Take Cubebass’ version for example: The young and skilled Mexican producer started his assignment by speeding things up – from 120 to 175 BPM (!) – and then converting the sober 4x4 pattern into a frenzied breakbeat structure. The outcome: A stunning Drum & Bass remix with a Jazzy and sophisticated gait – still smooth and sexy, but with a more KAPOW! aura, in our humble opinion. Kudos!

PREMIERE410 // H - Tócame (Cubebass Remix)

Mau Maioli (@maumaioli) presents his first album "Where Go", through the nuances of Indie Dance, which combine timbres of Italo Disco, Synth Wave and Indie Rock on Levels Rec (@levelssunset).

In eight tracks, Mau demonstrates his aptitude and willingness to musically express his feelings lived between the years 2021 and early 2022. With reflections involving the universe of mental health, he seeks with music to show the importance of care for the mind.

In "Brain Voices" Mau begins his journey introspectively and somewhat melancholy. This is a characteristic of Mau and in the introductory track, the artist already shows timbres that will be heard throughout the eight tracks.

A little Italo? In "Hands", Bad search in his Italian descent a little of what the country gave to the world. With the use of clapping samples, the music gives us the feeling of being on some stage.

In collaboration with Lapax (@brunalapax), the duo created "Nostalgic Beings". The track mixes not only the timbres of the past, but seeks in nostalgia to express the feelings that both Mau and Bruna are linked. The singer translated her routine as a nostalgic and reflective way and that’s what you hear in music.

The track Title, "Where Go", goes through another side of Mau. Here the artist rescues his influences from Indie Rock. A little slower and melancholy, where you can hear the voice of Mau, who first appears in an authorial work. 

In collaboration with Vasconcellos, the duo of artists unites their energies and creativity for the "Strings of Hope". In difficult times both Rafael and Maurício saw in the song a happy ending and thus created Strings that represent a little of this hope. The song is accompanied by an arpeggiated bass and a groovy altamante drums. This combination takes place through one of the most danceable tracks of this work.

Among all the songs on this album, "Process", is the refuge for happiness. Mau titled this track as a translation of a producer’s work in the studio.  The musical conception, for the artist, means a process of several stages and the end of it always ends up being of great happiness.

The partnership with the singer Aryela, resulted in "Lonely Game". In a lyric connected with the mental battle and its challenges, Aryela tells a little of the experiences lived in recent years, combined with an instrumental part that accompanies the singer’s voice.

Mau ends this journey with "Burnout". The track not only deals with a subject much talked about in recent years, but also demonstrates in the artist some timbres that will accompany him in the future.
