Escaping reality – wouldn’t it be nice sometimes?

Millions of people are longing for it on a daily basis and they become more by the minute.
So how about reshaping instead of escaping? There are many fine uses for creativity but it’s those that color your days, make you move, heal your trauma, that make this world a better place. In a way reshaping is also escaping. Escaping into something new.

Recycling, upcycling, downsizing. 

In another way reshaping is conserving. Building a better now with what is around you. Forming a future out of the past. Not always expanding – growing nonetheless. 
What is it that you truly need? Maybe you have it already. Maybe it was here all along. 

Art will prevail. 

Only time may tell something different. But in the end, who cares?
Heronymuz obviously does. So you can too. We will as well.
After all, caring is the thing that keeps us alive.

Our Hupupa has spend some days around the seaside bringing lovely vibes and music; meanwhile the summer is moving towards the end, we are delight to share a live mix from our fratello Ka:lu recorded at Alma Vibes, seaside resort located on east Italian cost, during an Hupupa's showcase.

Luca Cataldo (Ka:lu) is a multidisciplinary artist that focuses his works on audiovisual installation, big projections, vjing, music production and djing. Through his arts, as in music, he always try to express the believe into sounds as universal language, a way to get in meditation, a tool to understand where we are coming from, where we are, where we are going. Any of his creation always has a story behind that aims to deliver aesthetic journeys providing an immersive experiences for heterogeneous audiences. “I am the dream & the dreamer!”

This podcast is dedicated to Popcorn music and the Belgian Popcorn scene of the 60’s and 70’s.
Popcorn is Slick, Sleazy, exotic and sublime RnB infused with Soul & Jazz.
Originating in Belgium at the end of the 1960s and into the 70s, Popcorn was a music and dance scene with an emphasis on often obscure black American records of the then recent past. Drawing immediate parallels with the UK's Northern Soul scene from approximately the same time, young people would flock from all corners of Belgium to cram into a converted farmhouse barn called ‘’The Popcorn’’ to dance to these exotic sounds. Slow Grinding Rock & Roll, R&B, Jazz, Doo-Wop, Ska, Latin, Swing and Blues …
The most important thing about Popcorn was the tempo and often records were played much slower than intended.
While Northern Soul  favoured an often uptempo, stomping 60s soul sound, popcorn focused almost entirely on slower, moodier  Bluesy tracks. - 
The Popcorn sound is hard to pin down.  There are Soul, Blues, Ska, Pop, Jazz and Latin records which are all Popcorn.
After all these Years I realize that the songs which  i tend to resonate with the most are to be considered Popcorn.
For me as a Belgian it felt obvious to make a mix with some of my favorite popcorn vinyls which I’ve been collecting in the last years.

This mix is dedicated to all the gorgeous people, open minded musicians and instrument makers, who overwhelmed me with Atai and were willed to teach me something about Gnawa. Not to mention the faboulous record stores in Casablanca, Rabat, Ouazazarte, Marrakesh and those hidden sellers, who suddenly appeared, when i lost my bearings in the Souq.

The mix contains old vinyls and cassettes, which are rounded up with contemporary digital releases and reissues. Pitched down darbouka tapes, traditional orchestra, modern gnawa, fusion, rock, miserable conditioned pop cassettes and some algerian raï. Featuring labels like boussiphone, koutobiaphone, disque gam, casaphone, radio martiko, nabilophone and so on…
