Our first single from our forthcoming EP, also called Graduation Blues.

Idealism follows me around, 
But it's only a matter of time before it drowns, 
Cos my closest are turning, 
They used to be yearning just like me. 

My realism is about to choke 
Every idealistic, juvenistic modicum of hope, 
I'll stop buying their stories, 
We all become tories in the end. 

So what do you want to grow to be? 
Son, you'll be lucky just to eat. 
Choice is a right and all are free: 
Rhetoric of the bourgeoisie, 
Type another hundred words 
And have another cup of tea. 

My younger man is going to break my heart 
But I can't tell where his song stops and where mine starts, 
He's such beautiful ideas 
As uninformed and naive as they are. 

And I don't think he'd like me if we met, 
Cos I'd join One Direction in a heartbeat if they'd let me, 
he'd go bounce round the garden 
and play the lead part in his own film. 

So just keep me tranquilised with tea, 
There's so much I've trained myself to need. 
Boy alone can live on music, art and history, 
Then I'll reach my mid 30s 
And all I'll think about is money. 

Idealism, you have done me wrong. 
It's just a matter of time before I lose faith in this song, 
But I'll just keep on playing 
And hopelessly praying till I do.

It all kicked off with Charlie from Sylvette who chatted to us about the band's brand new release and Manchester's up & downs, followed by a really impressive live studio performance.

In the second hour, Mixcloud & Soho Radio's Xanthe joined us in true 'desert island discs' style, running through the range of influences, with much chit chatter along the way!

Sylvette are a 5 piece Art Rock band based in Manchester. All hailing from different musical backgrounds, each band member draws from unique influences to give Sylvette an identity completely its own. Think the raw, yearning melodies of Led Zeppelin and Jeff Buckley supported by the bold sounds of Bjork and Aphex Twin, all fused together by the disturbing poetry of Neutral Milk Hotel. Their much anticipated second album ’Stiller than Still’ will be released on 17th July.
