Well this one is quite different compared to other tracks I recorded with the Wavestation EX. It has woodwinds and strings, and even a harp. From 1997, this is "Aperture". 📸

The first half is OK, though it does contain the notes that would return at the very end of the piece, and the second half is much better, IMO. I had to use quite a bit of noise reduction here, as a quieter piece has more tape hiss. I hope the highs are still in there. 🤞

The photo is one I took of the Moon through a cluster of small trees. Hopefully at the correct aperture.

Where have all the major chords gone?  Actually, there is one in this piece!  Regular listeners will know that I like to philosophise when I’m creating these tracks.  I suppose the lesson today is to focus on what you want and don’t be put off by all the superfluous noise.  Your ‘joy’ could be hiding from you in plain sight.  What do you think?

luscinia (2017)

The work is in two movements - Fraying and Prolonged. The first presents a sonic object that gradually disintegrates. The second reframes this object and slows it down, so that the process of decay is frozen, and the object appears almost immortal. The work grew out of reflections on 1 Corinthians 15 and Jiang Zhi's Love Letters (2014). In Jiang Zhi's photographs, flowers are on fire, but are not harmed by the flames.
