Russia has launched some of the most prominent avant-club acts into international orbit in recent years, several of whom have found a home on the Symbols roster. CELES7E is the latest to join up and is set to instantly make his mark with From Ashes -- seven tracks of towering industrial noise, video game score dramatics and gorgeously contrasting elements. Those elements range from the familiar to the alien, the classical to the futurist, each imbued with an all-encompassing immersive spirit.

With only one guest feature, fittingly provided by likeminded producer Eyne, who also designed the project's cover art, From Ashes provides a stark invitation into CELES7E's aesthetic vision, laid out in crisp, multi-layered brilliance. Viscous sub bass underlies the whole project while blasts of industrial noise mar pristine piano melodies and disembodied choir vocals. From Ashes is overwhelming by nature and CELES7E rewards close listens by including subtle nest eggs throughout, providing reason to delve ever deeper into the prismatic lens of tracks like "Escalated" and "Tacent".

The latest DISPLAY split tape sees two exciting artists construct ice-cold ambience in a pair of sprawling cinematic pieces.

Laura Luna Castillo crafts a tense surrealist soundscape on “Things Have Started To Float”. The eerie and engaging piece steadily amasses and dissolves structure with a blend of droning mid-tones and creaking metallic hits all while a menacing bass pulse lurches forward. This distinct tension creates a cinematic feeling ultimately evoking a subtly whirling electronic mass frozen in time.

The flipside of the tape sees Lensk engaging in more structural experimentation on “Light (As It Shone Through Cracking Ice)”. The tundral composition slowly evolves from delicate ambient meditations and narrative glimmers to blistering wall-of-sound sonics. Closing with razor-sharp growls eventually fading back into more delicate, nocturnal hymns. A fitting final bow for the release.

The first DISPLAY split tape of 2020 finds Avbvrn and Evitceles taking a painterly approach to heavy-weight sonics.

Avbvrn’s “Austerity” skips through patchy urban environments while dark subterranean rhythms dance in and out of frame below. Occasionally focusing in on tight, micro synth murmurs before returning to eyes-down bass workouts, the piece gives an introspective look at the weight of a bustling outside environment.

On “White Lion”, Evitceles expands upon these cinematic themes but with a much wider lens. The pensive yet hulking epic finds orchestral pads dancing with hard hitting bass stabs, evoking the feeling of a monolithic structure finding life. A slow burner that ultimately culminates in other-worldly pastoral hymns, “White Lion” closes out the release in a cleansing fashion.
