One of the unsung heroes of American club music, Austin-based Mike G has released on just about every relevant dance music label (Car Crash Set, Main Course, Track Meet, RAW Records, etc.) in North America, collaborated with everyone from Falcons to DJ Rashad and, now, it’s our pleasure to announce his arrival to the SMBDL series. An expert in a wide variety of styles, genres and aesthetics, Mike is an expert in building sparse, percussive jams that are equally successful as body twisting dance floor bombs and impressive sound design achievements. And that’s exactly what “Hammerhead” is, a brash dance floor number that expands into its own sonic architecture as the song progresses. Mike G is prolific in scope and influence, but “Hammerhead” proves once again that he has found a sound that is truly, and only, his.
