Scenes from our Classic Future is the realization of three songs and two projects that came together as one. As young aspiring musicians since the early age of 12, Greg Paulus and John Camp practiced playing jazz standards into the wee small hours of the morning together. Eventually the two would find themselves both in New York under new and more electronic circumstances. Deeply indebted to the mastery of Herbie Hancock, Paulus and Camp would reconnect, this time with synthesizers, and continue on their musical journey together.  

On one particular day, Camp played Paulus a track titled Remo. Paulus instantly fell in love with the track but both felt it needed something more… Paulus insisted on laying down vocals and within 15 minutes had the lyrics written out and soon after added trumpet. 

Around the same time Paulus was revisiting Surf Song, a track he and Brian Derdiarian had been working on sporadically for some time. The two would record long one-take jams on trumpet, Juno 106, and guitar, feeding them all thru looping and delay pedals. From these sessions they would find a stride and in addition to Surf Song, record Fire in the Sky. Similar to Remo, Fire in the Sky would come together in a lightning bolt sort of way. When adding the final touches, Camp was around and was enlisted to add piano which would bring the whole EP together. 
  
With the three tracks complete, Paulus began to see a correlation between them all. Each, in one way or another embodied the feeling of when the beach meets the ocean. Remo was distinctly reminiscent of their times spent on Rockaway Beach: The trips out in the car or bus, drinking and smoking on the shore and slowly making their way back into the Brooklyn night to get crazy. Fire in the Sky and Surf Song had a distinct West Coast vibe, most likely due to the fact that Derdiarian, being from California, could not help but bring that West Coast swagger to the music. At the end of the day, the idea of having their good friend Tanner Ross add his signature touch to the project was a necessity. Ross would take Remo and make it his own hazy gem. With that, Paulus would end up with four songs that reminded him of that special place where the sand hits the ocean.  

As luck would have it Paulus would manage to take two pictures (found on the 12") that perfectly encapsulated his feelings for these songs. One, a beautiful day on the Rockaways and the other, a lucky ride in his buddy's Corvette Stingray up the Pacific Coast Highway to Malibu. 

Scenes from our Classic Future is a collection of songs that Paulus, Camp, and Derdiarian love and have labored over for a long time. They hope you enjoy them as much as they do.

'Bubble Gum Geisha' explores the contrast between the refined beauty of a geisha and the sordid world she frequents. The result is an infectious slice of classy electro-pop that represents a creative leap forward in the band’s sound, building on the strengths of first single, ‘Change’, which won high praise from some of British radio’s most respected figures. 

The track featured on Steve Lamacq’s Roundtable Review on BBC 6 Music, with the host himself describing it as a 'terrifically charming piece of music', while one of electro-pop’s most prolific figures, Martyn Ware of The Human League and Heaven 17, expressed that the band’s music had 'restored [his] faith in the future of songwriting in Britain'.

Charting at no.1 on Amazing Radio, ‘Change’ also had spot plays on BBC Radio 1 from Huw Stephens and Phil Taggart, as well as on BBC Radio 2 from Janice Long. ‘Change’ also featured on BBC Radio 6 Music’s playlist for a month, receiving coveted airplay from Mark Radcliffe, MaryAnne Hobbs, Lauren Laverne, Shaun Keaveny and Tom Ravenscroft.

R’s creative core is the work of brothers Pierre and Marc O'Reilly and Konstantine Pope, all respected musicians in their own right. Marc’s solo project has seen him release 2 albums and embark on a live tour across Europe, including a performance at Glastonbury, while he also provided vocals on 3 tracks for MOBO award-winning act Karios 4tet’s last album, which received 4 star reviews from Mojo, The Independent and The Guardian. 

Pierre, meanwhile, is a composer for motion pictures and has worked on a full host of films, including collaborating with Academy Award-nominated director, Nicky Phelan and BAFTA nominated Director, Eamonn O’Neill whilst third member, producer Konstantine Pope, has made a name for himself both as a screen composer and electronic music producer. His screen work has appeared on BBC, ITV, NBC Universal, SYFY, and Glory World Series amongst many others and his commercial releases have charted on Beatport and received substantial radio play.
