Astral projection (or astral travel) is an interpretation of an out-of-body experience (OBE) that assumes the existence of an "astral body" separate from the physical body and capable of travelling outside it. Astral projection or travel denotes the astral body leaving the physical body to travel in an astral plane. The idea of astral travel is rooted in common worldwide religious accounts of the afterlife in which the consciousness' or soul's journey or "ascent" is described in such terms as "an... out-of body experience, wherein the spiritual traveller leaves the physical body and travels in his/her subtle body (or dreambody or astral body) into ‘higher’ realms. It is frequently reported in association with dreams, and forms of meditation.

Patients have reported feelings similar to the descriptions of astral projection induced through various hallucinogenic and hypnotic (including self-hypnotic) means. There is no scientific evidence that there is any measurable manifestation of a consciousness or soul which is separate from neural activity, and there is no scientific evidence for the contention that one can consciously leave the body and make observations. Attempts to verify that such has occurred have consistently failed in spite of the variety of pseudoscientific claims to the contrary.

I have since updated the sound file for this piece. I never liked an excessive clicking sound caused by Tantra at the beginning. My fault, not Tantra, I just had to turn off one of the settings.

Also, the previous file was a 320kbps MP3 and that has now been replaced with a 24bit 44.1kHz WAV file.

This piece was created using guitars and effects, along with some "extreme stretching" using "Paul's Extreme Sound Stretch" to make the drones.

MSV Not Invented Here is the name of one of the Ship Minds from the Iain M Banks Culture Series.

This particular ship is a member of the Interesting Times Gang.

Creating this piece allowed me to discover all those previously so called unusable presets found in Absynth 5.

It also gave me an opportunity to experiment with Adaptiverb.

Putting Absynth through Adaptiverb is a joy...

LOU (Limited Offensive Unit) Caconym is the name of a space craft from the Iain M Banks sci-fi Culture series.

For anyone who may be interesting, this is available for collaboration.

Project BPM = 73.2 (just in case you want to sync to the Tantra effects)

This piece consists of one instance of FabFilter Twin. Just one note played (C-5) and sustained for about 14 minutes. The preset I chose is Haunted Kat and I have tweaked it a bit just to "make it mine." The preset has a couple of XY pads set up so I have added some automation to change the XY values for the length of the piece. There is an instance of Pro-Q in the FX bin.

No other synth is used.

I have my usual reverb bus (Breverb) and delay bus (Timeless). FabFilter Twin audio is sent to both of these busses post fader.

I then have the following busses:-

Averb - An instance of Adaptiverb and Pro-Q. I had created my own default preset in Adaptiverb and I adjust it slightly to get what I want.

Tantra 1 - An instance of Tantra and Pro-Q. Preset SEQ Echoes used which is tweaked a bit.

Tantra 2 - An instance of Tantra and Pro-Q. Preset FLT Clapman used, tweaked a bit.

G-R 1 - An instance of Guitar Rig and Pro-Q. Preset Grain Dispense. I might automate some of the parameters.

G-R 2 - An instance of Guitar Rig and Pro-Q. Preset not used. Instead I dragged first Oktaver and Resochord into play. I have used these to alter the pitch down and add some bass end into the mix.

The FabFilter Twin audio track has a send, pre-fader, to each of the Averb, Tantra 1, Tantra 2, G-R 1 and G-R 2 busses.

I have then automated the send levels to those busses.

The intention from the beginning was to create a dark (ish) piece to sit along with my other dark Culture Ship works. I hope I have managed to achieve this...

Ambient Bite 106

I suppose this is a clunky fusion of ambient and Berlin School featuring synths, processed audio, samples, and some "out there" reverb. I managed to squeeze the Wave2.v in here, and a Whatsisname debut for the Black Hole and the Quad Imager. There are some deliberate quirks in the timing of this piece, which I quite enjoyed. The music was written whilst I was feeling quite disillusioned, so it could be regarded as confrontational ambience, if that makes any kind of sense.

This track is available on the latest (volume 7) of the always excellent compilations from Ambient Online. This volume features 136 tracks and an estimated length of over 21 hours, although my abacus melted during the calculations At only $10  this represents astounding value for money.

The mastering on here certainly differs slightly from the version on the compilation
