ok when I saw you made a song titled "The Ptolemaic System" I just had to check it out xD I remember learning about this in my history of philosophy course haha, very random. The song did not disappoint, cool ambient stuff, nice work!

February 2023 DIAMC prompt was to write a song inspired by a name, which was to be included within the title. 

Yesterday I sat down, wrote and recorded, this song about - and for - my beautiful almost, almost always friend. We met when I was 9 and she was 10.

Northern lights watched late, from garage roof
Swung on swings with Walkmans, in our youth
Oh my darlin’, times were simpler then

There’ve been darker days, tears amongst laughter
Can’t stay kids for ever, and after
Oh my darlin’, growing up can hurt bad
 
I just hope that I always had your back

Wish I still took time and wrote more letters
To have and hold, with love from sender
Cos my darlin’, you know I’m really glad

All  these years you’ve been there for me too
The  lovely  things you say,  and that you do
Oh my darlin’, you’re the friend I’ve almost, almost, always had

Through all the good and bad
The happy and the sad
Lucky to have Gwendoline

Campy tongue in cheek or sincere lament? Well kinda both; this was just one of those stream of consciousness snippets that was ridiculous in the onset, and I never thought it'd be something I put out there but it kept snowballing and these things end up like a dog waiting by the door silently imploring  "Let's go for a walk."   My son attended an academic conference a few weeks ago and related that an environmental scientist believes we're cooked, literally and figuratively. We may need help but I don't think it's coming. My mortal expectancy extends only to introductory portents but my kids and granddaughter can expect to see the collapse of our environment unfolding in total, irreversible clarity. OK let's go back to making fun for now.

but you never could comply 
any promises you make to change your habits just another lie

wait a minute there's something here that can't be found
anywhere else in this universe on this holy ground
take a minute take an hour take a day to change your mind
can't you see your way through to help us one more time

we settled you in Atlantis we left you signs in Peru
we taught you the secrets of life on the Nile
but you never could live up to the gifts that we gave to you

heaven knows we've been blind to the lessons we were given
time after time
and if we never seem to learn don't abandon us 
when our fate is so dire

is it too much to ask to want these things to last a little longer?
take pity on the children theirs is not the fault of the fathers
