This is the 6th song posted from the album I started using demo tracks given to me by Wou-Wou & the Wormling during the start of the pandemic! This song was inspired by the mass shootings that plague the United States and the lack of progress this society and government makes toward increasing the safety and well being of all. I was recently surprised by an article in support of the “good guy with a gun” solution in a mainstream liberal news article. It’s basically the wild wild west out here still, lol. 

Big thanks to Wou Wou, Bit-zone, and Stricknice for sticking with me through this long project and being an awesome group to work with. And big thanks to The Magnetic Dog Sisters for working with me on this second track. I love their fresh experimental sound!

King Skirmish

Some of you may have noticed in the last four years that I have put up original songs - which I usually leave free for download - on this page. It's been some time since I've gone out of my way to polish a piece up, lyrics and all, but thinking about doing that again dries my throat right out; getting from point A to point hey-we-actually-have-a-song-here is one hell of a process and one I have not been able to confidently immerse myself in. But here I have some instrumental pieces that have collected in the dark corners of my laptop - things I would begin out of a small imagined phrase or guitar riff, a motif on my parents' piano on a Sunday afternoon. After some brooding, gestating (where I'm up still at 3 in the morning with rings around my eyes) the piece would end up as one of these eight.

With this release of demo tracks I'm also saying I'm moving forward. There are only so many of these things that I can accumulate, wondering if they're any good or worth working with. It becomes this never ending process of tinkering, listening (a week later), shelving, rediscovering, rinse, wash, repeat. After a time, there's only so much you can keep trying to do with one idea, and here's where I've let the music rest - let the doubting stop.

I've been caught up. Here's what that sounds like.

Régulo (AKA @kings-of-manguareo) in Venezuela started this project a year ago with a piece called ‘Al Paso C’.
After several evolutions involving Dick (Oorlab) and myself, then the new title was suggested by Régulo and we ventured into space, with a ‘Musical Consequences’ scenario. I started off the lyrics, then Régulo added some lines and finally Dick completed them. Soundcloud is a great place for experimentation. First track of a new album where I'll try to be more eclectic, with closer approach to some genres. Experimented on this one over-editing vocal line on the left, and getting midi files out of organic guitar melodies, which I could play with virtual instruments. I hope you'll enjoy a different Ruizzoid shape.

Dedicated to Germán Coppini’s ‘Golpes Bajos’, one of my favorite groups of the Spanish ‘Nueva Ola’.
