Enigma - Relaxing ambient drone music (Roland JX-10 / Super JX analog synth)

I composed "Tour De Pyrénées” after a trip through them in 2012. The tour lasted five days and nights and I saw some unbelievable, beautiful ‘lost places’. The music represents the ups and downs of driving the car through the mountain pass, the voices of the people, and the landscape.

Sound Diary is a journey into the warmth and weight of nostalgia, a sonic scrapbook pieced together from memories both vivid and hazy.

This EP is a tribute to the beauty of remembering.
It's an exploration of how sound becomes a time machine, weaving together the threads of who we were and who we are now.

With Sound Diary I hope to create a space where your own memories can find echo in mine.

For today’s exclusive track premiere, we are honoured to share with you James Murray‘s slow-burner, titled “In Your Head” which is literally a half of his brand new album, titled "Embrace Storms" [the other half, being another long-player, “In Your Heart”], released as a multi-format split between his very own Slowcraft and KrysaliSound labels. The two pieces sonically capture the weather patterns which are rising and subsiding, rising and subsiding, all on their own, in the caverns of your mind, body and soul, where, instead of fighting, or even worse, identifying with this uncontrollable climate, you can notice, use soft focus, and then let it pass. TRACK PREMIERE : James Murray - In Your Head

In 1968, Dr. Bernie Krause was leading a booming music career. A prodigiously talented musician and early master of the electronic synthesizer, Krause was busy working with artists like the Doors and the Beach Boys and performing iconic effects for blockbuster films. Then Warner Brothers commissioned him to create an album incorporating the sounds of wild habitats, so he headed into Muir Woods with his recording equipment. What he heard changed his life and triggered a fifty-year odyssey.

Then and there, Krause decided that he wanted spend the rest of his life recording and archiving the music of wild animals and wild places. He quit Hollywood and began traveling the world. The soundscapes he recorded were full of epiphanies about the origin of our own culture and music, about the profound connectedness of creatures, and about the unseen tolls of human activity. Previous wildlife recordings isolated the calls of individual creatures, but Krause recorded habitats as a whole. He soon proposed a new theory of ecosystem functioning: that each species produces unique acoustic signatures, partitioning and occupying sonic niches such that the singing of all of the creatures in a healthy ecosystem can be heard, organized like players in an orchestra. 

Today, Krause’s astonishing archive contains sounds made by more than 15,000 species. It is, as The New Yorker aptly put it, “an auditory Library of Alexandria for everything non-human." Fifty percent of the recorded habitats no longer exist due to habitat destruction, climate change, and human din. We spoke with Krause about the beauty of and perils facing wild music, the extraordinary science of soundscape ecology, and how sound impacts the welfare of animals. BIO
===
While I appreciate music in many genres, I’ve always had a love for electronica… especially ambient, chillout and IDM, likely due to artistic influences in my youth (see “Influences” here: http://synth4ever.com/about-synthever/influences ).

It all started around age 6 when I first heard works done by a Japanese synthesist/composer named Isao Tomita. My parents had bought 3 of his records (Kosmos, The Planets, and The Bermuda Triangle) at a garage sale because the cover artwork “looked cool”.

Little did I know (at the time) that he was a major pioneer in the electronic & analogue synth music scene. When listening to his material, I often dream of soundscapes, distant planets and other such far-away places, and I think my early exposure to his music influenced me for the rest of my life towards a “space ambient” style.

I took piano lessons at a young age for a brief time, but then focused on drumming from age 12. Still, over the years my interest and love for electronic music grew until the point of finally purchasing my first synthesizer in January 2012. Since then I have developed a voracious appetite for all things synth.

DEMOS & MUSIC

When it comes to my synth demos,  I try to showcase what I’ve learnt about the synths I own thus far, and to share with others my love for these synths. I prefer the spontaneity of live performance and hands-on, real-time tweaking of the synth itself.

I like to play music in a more “space ambient” style comprised of long sustained pads, arpeggiators, resonance, reverbs and delay. I find this style allows me great freedom to tweak a synth’s various parameters, play with effects to create new sounds, and create emotional soundscapes that are pleasing to my ear and which take me (and hopefully, the listener) on an emotional journey through electronic music.
