Jahrelang war lisa luka auf allen möglichen Dancefloors anzutreffen, bis letzten Sommer alle Festivals und Partys ins Wasser fielen – und sie vom Pferd. Der Pandemie, einem gebrochenen Bein sowie ihrer unfassbar großen Liebe zur Musik ist es zu verdanken, dass sie seitdem nicht nur auf der Tanzfläche, sondern auch hinter den Decks zu finden ist. Ihr Sound bewegt sich meistens zwischen 90 und 105bpm, in ganz seltenen Fällen sogar um die 120bpm. Mal dark und treibend, mal verspielt, trippy oder dreamy – es ist schwer, lisa luka in eine Schublade zu stecken. Jedenfalls spielt sie nur das, was sie „fühlt“, auch wenn dies oftmals einen wilden Genremix bedeutet.

INTERVIEW:
1. Wie lange legst du schon auf und was hat dich dazu bewegt, aufzulegen?

lisa luka: Ich lege ziemlich genau seit Juli 2020 auf, da es weder Partys noch Festivals gab und ich unbedingt zu meiner Lieblingsmusik tanzen wollte. Im August habe ich mir dann das Bein gebrochen und ich hatte noch mehr Zeit, mich mit dem Auflegen zu beschäftigen. Mit dem Geld aus meiner Unfallversicherung habe ich mir Equipment zugelegt und so wurde aus einem Hobby ziemlich schnell eine Leidenschaft. 

1.1. Hattest du Support dabei, oder wie hast du das Auflegen gelernt? 

lisa luka: Meine Freunde, von denen selbst viele DJs sind, haben mich von Anfang an unterstützt, mir die Basics gezeigt und mir tausende Fragen beantwortet. Danke an dieser Stelle vor allem an @jantaubmann @elec-brown und @finnkir Durch meinen Freundeskreis hab ich auch ziemlich schnell meine ersten Gigs gespielt, da ich oft zu Veranstaltungen mitgenommen oder ich für bestimmte Events empfohlen wurde. Dafür bin ich wirklich sehr, sehr dankbar ☺ 

2. Gibt es einen speziellen Moment/Event an den/an das du dich gern zurückerinnerst? 

lisa luka: Da muss ich sofort an meinen allerersten Gig auf einem kleinen Festival von Freunden denken. Das Set hab ich wochenlang vorbereitet. Ein paar Tage vor dem Festival wurde ich  aus dem Krankenhaus entlassen und wollte es mir nicht nehmen lassen, aufzulegen. Was ich dann auch getan hab – im Sitzen und mit Gipsbein. Wahrscheinlich hab ich zwei Stunden ununterbrochen gegrinst, weil ich so glücklich war. 

3. Was wünscht du dir, sollte in Zukunft in der Clubszene anders laufen? 

lisa luka: Ich würde mir mehr Diversität und weniger Sexismus in der Szene wünschen. Und viel mehr Empowerment und Support untereinander. Außerdem sollen FLINTA* nicht nur gebucht werden, um ein ausgeglichenes Line Up sicherzustellen, sondern weil es musikalisch passt!  

4.  Gibt es ein Thema, das dir sehr am Herzen liegt oder ein Projekt, das dich beschäftigt? 

lisa luka: Heute (Sonntag) starten wir mit unserem neu gegründeten Kollektiv von electronicflowyoga www.instagram.com/electronicflowyoga wöchentliche online Yoga Sessions, jeweils kombiniert mit einem Downtempo Set unserer DJs. Sollte es wieder möglich sein, gibt’s natürlich bald auch wieder Live Sessions, z. B. auf Festivals. Für mehr Infos schreibt mir gerne oder schaut auf gerne mal auf insta oder Facebook vorbei.

Once upon a rhyme, Fuchur and Dave the diver killed the verwirrtshaus again. Groovey, funkey, loveley, deep...everything mixed together in the cozy atmosphere of a closing set in our homebase. A travel from 119 to 97 BPM in the morning hours of one of the last parties where we are. Mixed with 2x CDJs and a Korg mini chaoss pad 2 for some vocal - fx.
We really enjoyed the good mood and are happy to present their set!

Hey this is Skwirl here to gab at you briefly about the records we have coming for this year’s thematic cluster! The theme is Nostalgic Wavs and each record has been linked to a concept under the rather large umbrella of nostalgia as a function of emotional attachment to memory. 


The fourth record for Nostalgic Wavs is Spoke’s endlessly colourful and spirited LP ‘You Make Me Feel Dramatic’ and it’s our Déjà Vu selection.

Déjà Vu is a concept that needs no introduction as an estimated 97 percent of people have experienced it at least once. It is categorised as a strong familiarity with a present situation or experience - to the extent of believing it has been perceived or experienced before - despite it being new. We’ve mapped it as restorative, present, unknowing on our Nostalgic Wavs map.

Spoke is a queer, non binary German producer based in Berlin known most prominently for their blistering hip hop productions that have become a fixture in the international, experimental, and non-traditional fringes of the Berlin Deutschrap scene. Spoke started their musical career as a DJ in Berlin in the late 2000s, amidst a cascade of grime and garage migrating from the UK en route to the thumps and stomps of the techno capital -  that fertile ground of cross pollination and the exciting rise of the German beat scene can still be found reverberating through their work now.


Indeed, when arriving upon what the LP for Woodland Creatures would sound like we found mutual excitement in exploring their roots in club music both classic and contemporary, pop and underground. A stint living in the UK some years back had solidified their love for garage, drum and bass and the wider UK funky continuum; and, this merged with a keen infatuation with stateside movements like jersey house, juke and footwork in the years since moving back to Berlin - all culminating in a collision of style, sounds and ethos that had been percolating in them for quite some time. 

The result is ‘You Make Me Feel Dramatic’, a punchy, short and sweetly diaphanous transatlantic club scene love letter born of Spoke’s personal journey and subterranean explorations which is brimming with immediacy, life, colour and aimed squarely at breathless sweaty dancefloor workouts. Spoke’s authentic filtering of inspirations and synthesised style mashups yields a record that feels impossibly familiar - like club joints you could swear you know but are of course brand new - and speaks of a producer poised to take the audience on a personal journey they might not expect but one that is kaleidoscopic, spritely, infectious, and just flat out fun.
