Re-embracing hope in present and past science fiction.

 A heavy dub of Nachtmusik. Admittedly the name 'New Nubia Space Station' is a bit too conceptually obvious and pretentious, but it kind of stuck. Working title was 'ambient step dub', next idea was 'Octavia Butler', name of the sci-fi novel author Octavia Butler, which in turn almost noone would understand who or what it refers to. (she is often named as the inventor of afrofuturism). 

The new name is inspired by two contemperary novels by Omar Epps & Clarence A. Haynes. 'Nubia - The Reckoning' and the follow up 'Nubia - The Awakening'. Definitely more down to earth than the 'Black Panther' franchise. Dystopic, yet entertaining and hopeful.

Another Mile - Esso Mandela | Emotional Deep House

This is a fugue for 7 sinewaves and a few sound effects. It modulates between C Lydian and C Phrygian, which constantly changes the overall mood of the melodies, while the bass always returns to the pedal note C. Tempo: 87 bpm.

Within the concept of the upcoming 'Hybrid Symphony Nr°5 - Cellular City' album, it represents the part of the cell in which RNA react to sensory input (immun system, nervous system, cardiovascular system) of environmental and epigenetic factors influencing the individual phenotype, i.e. the multicelluar living being/person. 

Thus the name 'Ribosomes I - Epigenetic Sampler'. 

(Part II - 'Ribosome II - Protein Synthesizer' - on the concept album about the complex, metropolitian-like interconnectivity, and productivity of any given living single cell, will deal with the output of the RNA: Translating from the DNA, and creating the actually needed proteins for the phenotype in realtime.)

SHERPA DANCE evokes the meditative trance of high-altitude movement - a hypnotic fusion of sub-bass flow, granular snow textures, and bright micro-structured swipes. Inspired by the rhythm of breath and footsteps in the Himalayas.

The sound of a several, sticky pieces of tape was used to enhance the Kicks, and for all kinds of percussion. Also a basketball, whirling objects swung by a microphone. A reverse vibraphone and a few synths and sinewaves. Plus some funny drum sounds by Sonic Charge.

The endoplasm is the innermost part of the Cytoplasm. Just around the nucleus. The urbun area right around Time Square so to speak. The most traffic in all of the cell, where the fluid atmosphere becomes granular. This place is tight and alive, day and night.

A cover version of Tipper. The very first track (our) Dave and Steve collaborated on. Like many musicians back then, we were trying to wrap our heads around wtf is this guy doing? It was not an attempt to make something new, or even better out of it. Just backwards engineering the piece as a learning experience. Listening to it beat by beat, sometimes even second by second, trying to figure out all the animal voices in the background. The first lesson: Start gathering tons of found sounds and samples from all walks of life. And beyond.
