Byron Yeates has his fingerprints all over Berlin’s musical landscape. He’s the Irish wunderkind behind Radiant Love, an event series, label and collective with a loyal following that encourages free-thinking, self-expression and musical exploration in all its forms. He’s also resident at recently launched La Noche at OHM (Tresor’s ‘klein aber fein’ little brother) and community radio station Refuge Worldwide. The German capital’s oft-referenced hybrid of queer politics and music is the driving force here, and Yeates really puts his money where his mouth is. His marathon sets and bouncy, high-energy sounds run the gamut from trance to more beat-focused house and have landed him squarely behind the decks at covetable haunts like Panorama Bar, Fold London and Shelter Amsterdam. As a brief interlude from his growing number of bookings, Byron’s put together a sumptuous mix for Bassiani Podcast 164. I first became aware of the Harmony label when they released ‘Natives’ an EP by prolific techno producer Alan Backdrop in 2019. Since this time, I’ve followed their lead, been enchanted by their always impressive musical outputs and enamoured - yet only from afar by their magical parties. Made up of multi-talented individuals, as a collective they coalesce as a group of kindred souls united by a shared wellspring of boundless creativity. Their events are always a spectacle, whether collaborating with the likes of Midgar, Kalahari Oyster Cult and X or running it solo, they have the power and passion to transform almost any space into a uniquely vibrant, community-minded party place. From UNESCO-listed libraries, gymnasiums and forest floors, no event is too big or too out there for Harmony to pull off. Across their music, events and DJ sets, they ooze a sense of profound intent whilst being effortlessly playful. In a world that can sometimes feel unnecessarily, individualistic the Harmony crew continues to shine a light on the power of bringing together our creative minds.

Co-founder of Norway’s future-facing Ute crew, Ekkel (Teo Bachs) has a front-row seat in the cockpit on their psychedelic flavoured quest. From their woodland beginnings they’ve staked a claim to freedom through music and community, and expanded to include brick and mortar club nights and a self-titled label for the release of their magnetic and mysterious techno sounds. Forest-bath electronics that take stock of Scandinavia’s ambient tradition and cross-pollinate it with a measure of acid, trance and midnight sun. Teo’s own steadily rising number of productions (side project H25 included) has fleshed out Ute’s vision with a personal twist, and there’s another three scheduled for the fall. The past few years too have seen him hard at work exploring the possibilities of sound in a lonely cabin as part of Solar Alliance, collaborating with S.O.N.S on Korean label Junction Forest and producing many more unreleased tracks, some of which you’ll hear here first for a very special number. It’s a wormhole trip that marches headlong from the shadows, shimmering and physical beats that heave and swell, tribal breaks that flit from track to track and build a cathartic mood that harks back to Ute’s woodland roots.
