It was so fun to be a part of a Beate Uwe Barfuß line-up once again! I distinctly remember that in the weeks leading up to it I felt like I really needed to play some sweet tunes in a proper sound system again to release some energy and have a proper dance that leaves me satisfied, so I was actually planning on playing pure dirty dark downtempo bangers that would have me and the fellow dancers stampeding the ground towards the same groove. 

However it was such a last minute booking, i'm so thankful that I was booked to play so spontaneously! There was only one last slot available for me to play at for a Beate Barfuß Sunday event before they closed for the summer brake, which was the opening slot. So when it came to preparing my playlist for my set I realised it doesn't make sense to be opening the club up with loud in your face music, whilst the whole bar staff is also just getting into the vibe of their shift. Which is why i decided to start off smooth and soft so that I could catch the few people already at the venue and the staff together, and for us to be in sync for the remainder of the night. 

I am so happy I did that, as i found it heartwarming and hilarious when at the start of my set the club was fairly empty but the energy was still vibrant! The staff was enjoying the dreamy floaty start of my set so much to the point where even though only few people were there, they FILLED the dance floor with more smoke than I have personally ever experienced in there!

About this journey :
At times when things start to get predictable, it's when I usually look back to my (musically weird) homeland Chile, and a little bit of Latin America as well, of course, a land where music is incredibly fertile, as rooted in the culture as the food is in France and incredibly impressive in many ways. But there’s also a trick in the way on how its scene and ways of sharing its music could be a bit unknown for the ¨western world¨, plus it's just in Spanish in many cases! =D

Sometimes I think the music industry has become a condescending place for artists just following algorithms and playing safe, but then I start to find all these ¨unusual stories¨ here and there, outside the ¨mainstream music world¨ but you need to dig deeper to find projects like ¨Mono o Estéreo¨ released by the super underground Chilean legend netlabel Pueblo Nuevo (search for this one!), or the just released jewel by New Latam Beats ¨Borneo¨ from Yoyoyo, plus a few other tricks from the awesome compilation of Tchamma Yappu. ¨Walung II¨ (quite a masterpiece according to me), a bit of ¨Yokha¨, the last release of Cosmovision Records, etc…

There’s interesting stuff to be discovered when we dare to explore different things and that’s what I wanted to do here, creating a little compendium of ¨Unusual Stories¨ =D

About @elextravagante :
¨El Extravagante¨ is a synthesizer lover / cumbia-magician, bohemian street poet/DJ. An immigrant from South America based in France, at what he calls: ¨living in the North, the other side of the world¨. Most importantly, he’s a folktronica & electropical rhythms diplomat in Europe, making electronic music with a tropical/trippy edge 🌴😎✌
Apart from being an artist, Felipe Nadeau, the man behind the character is a culture and arts manager co-directing the beautiful project known as @CosmovisionRecords, spreading the love for the new forms of folklore and electronic music from LatinAmerica and all the world. Taking influences from his environments and his deep love for a wide range of music, the trained producer branched out into various genres, taking the essence of what he felt resonated most with him in that given genre and re-applying it into a different context and character. He created two different projects mainly infused by Deep / Groovy / Bouncy sounds.

SYNESTHES!A -  traveling through the faster moving realms of dance music. 

Synesthesia is a neurological condition in which information meant to stimulate one of your senses stimulates several of your senses. Synesthesia comes from the Greek words: "Synth" (meaning together) and "Ethesia" (meaning perception). 

Numeraki - venturing in the slower paced landscapes / beats.

"Nu" (phonetic pronounciation for new) and "Meraki" which is a modern Greek word, derived from the Turkish “Merak” (to do something with soul, creativity, or love; to put something of yourself into your work). 

The more freedom he is given to experiment and try out new things, the happier he is, forging together a mix of sounds which will surprise your senses and make you perceive music in a whole new light.
